Nothing beats the early morning... waking up in the woods. I just realized how we camp.... with LOTS of bikes.

Old busses carry a canoe well, plus all the camping material.

first campout...
first improvement... a westy tent...
then the Dormie top... and finally the lil' Puck!

The lastest addition to our camping stuff is the handy ERKA trailer. This little foldable trailer can be setted up to use it as a kitchen...

there are some different versions, the one I own is called Vacances (Holidays) and is pretty much similar to a wooden 70-ish westy trailer.
If you search for Erka remorque you'll find a lot of info and period brouchures... _________________ 1967 Split SO-42 Dormobile |

I see a lot of you brings bike when they camp, how do you transport them?
Full length roofracks? We've 4 bikes to take and I can't decide what's the best option... |

How long is your trip?
Are you road tripping or staying in one place?
Are you and you family avid cyclists or are they to keep the kids occupied on the campground? One bike will do for a restroom run.
Whether on top or hanging off the back, they're a hassle if you do not live ride them.
Just think of how much you need them, access to the hatch, or what to stand on lifting them to the rack (I use a small metal stool).
They're a pita; I figure that we're losing two miles per gallon with them on the roof. |

Ah ok thanks!
It would be for travels of few hundreds km to go by friends on holidays.
On place we'd use them without the camper for small trajects because I don't like to walk . I'm an avid cyclist but it would be on family mode so relax.
Looks like there is no easy way, I don't want to put them on the rear so it means big roofrack (and what to do with it when not used), probably a ladder, fuel consumption... to use them maybe two times a year.
Something to really think about... |
