That is a aftermarket key. Not a original VW key. You would need to replace that ignition with a OE one to match doors and ignition.

that's what I was afraid of...what key blank is supposed to fit a 58 SC ignition switch and treasure chest door?

hi steeler,

I am looking for a T profile engine lid lock for a 66 bus, but unable to find one locally.

I believe a 65-66 beetle lid lock will work, but which profile code lock would accept a T profile key?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, the T profile decklid locks are super rare. I've only come across one myself. Gotta keep searching. Sorry

I understand, what I meant was, will a SV, SU or SC lock allow a T profile key to be slotted in?

If it can, I think I can get a locksmith to rekey the non T profile to accept a T key.

I currently don't have any early 60s decklid locks to see if a T profile key will slide in. Sorry

Hi Your key blank is a Renault blank, I see them quite often, saw 3 last weekend!

They are often fitted as ignition barrels.

If you can't find them locally, I can post you some from the other side of the pond.

Thanks for the input..What I was really wanting was a key with the vw logo cut-out. I have since purchased and repaired a period correct ignition and key. I have my old ignition and key as a back-up.(or for sale to support my habit!)

Pm me a photo of both sides of your key or pm me a link to uploaded photo's, or and i'll see if I have a genuine blank for your barrel. You might have to wait 24 hours as I only joined an hour ago to answer your query.

Regards

Matt

I just went to have a copy made today, just in case, and I have this same key. Is it an odd one? My local locksmith shop did not have one in stock. I will hit some more shops, and hopefully someone will have one?

I'm looking for the codes on my 64 Bus. After reading this thread, I pulled the front door handles, side handle, and the rear hatch.

the driver door had a code, but it was in a slightly different place than in the picture. The last digit had been worn off.

On the side door the code was different than the driver door.

Where else can I look?

The joy of a VW, sounds like the handles have been changed in the past if you have different codes. The lock cylinder may have been switched and the old code not removed so it may still be a one key Bus.

As far as the worn code, try rubbing the region with a marker. Many times that will help you to see the code (I use a jewelers loop too).

As far as I know, they do not have key codes.

My apologies. I was not getting notifications for this thread. Then today one came in. I now see I missed many messages. Sorry

I have that key blank in a VW diecut style. So you can now look cool like the OE keys! Email me at [email protected]

Thanks!

PostPosted: Sun Aug 23, 2015 11:49 pm    Post subject: 1973 Campmobile needs door keys, ignition key won't work Reply with quote

Hi, I just bought a 1973 campmobile bus and the ignition key works fine, but won't work for any of the doors or back hatch. Is there any way to re-pin these locks for the current ignition key? ...or even better is there a way to determine what the original key was so I can make new keys to fit the old locks? Thanks for any ideas.... Rick

Hello. The locks need to be removed to see the key codes and to see if the doors and hatch all match. There's a code on every lock/handle. They came all matching originally.

If all the doors are the same, I can match the ignition. OR if theyre all separate, I can still help you.
Thanks!
