That Tennessee tag with 1-xxxx means it was a Shelby county, Memphis area car. Where did you find that? Looks like it was a minute ago. |
Location is Memphis, near downtown at housing project, date was December 26, 1978. |

I'm beside myself as of 11AM today. I've been looking and doing everything within my power to find one and TODAY, after roughly 20+ years or scouring the net and dreaming, July 7th, 2016 I finally drove home in this. As the posting states "AS FOUND only!". Well....this is how I found it:

Officer: It indicates here you require glasses to operate a motor vehicle.
Driver: It's OK officer, I don't wear glasses..I have contacts.
Officer: I don't care WHO you know!! |

My 56 the day I found and bought it. 30 plus years in a leaky barn left it with some nice patina.

The patina was actually a nice coating of rust, moss, dust and chicken and rat shit. |

Never ceases to amaze me how owners stash away vehicles and forget about them. Love the photos and stories how they were found, keep 'em coming! _________________ 1957 VW Oval Resto Mod |

Nice. Those front fenders look like early Euro smooth bucket front fenders. No bullet blinkers. Do the fenders flare out a little at the running board? _________________ Der

I think those fenders are the only reason this car survived as long as it did. There were at least a couple attempts on its life because of the aprons and fenders. I'm pretty sure now that they are factory replacement fenders that could be used for either oval or early big window. I don't think the ducktail is as pronounced as it should be for oval era fenders. I'll post a pic later and maybe you can narrow it down a little more.
They have the indents in the headlight bucket, so not real early fenders. Odd that they have been on the car as long as they have and haven't had bullets installed.
I kinda like the cleaner lines with no bullet, so I'm going to incorporate a signal light in the headlight bucket and leave the fenders unmolested.
Vision: Rag clip, stock height, stock wheels, stock colour (Agave), Euro bumpers, split case trans, mild dual relief engine. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

I got lucky with this one : The engine froze up when rain got into the dual carbs and it sat for a year in the guys driveway .

I found this one recently inside a house in Philadelphia. Original color appears to have been Strato Silver. I'm debating stripping it and repainting it. Theres plenty wrong with it that needs corrected if I go that route. |
