When I bought my 1959 (Sept 1958 build) coupe, this was included in the box of parts that came with it (had to put car together).

Turns out that it's a 6V water pump for the windshield sprayer. Found the Bondo'd hole in the middle of the sheet metal in front of the windshield, installed an OG nozzle, bought a water holder that goes next to the fuel tank, and hooked the pump wires to the turn signal high/low beam circuit (I know it's not correct). I use the floor high/low beam switch instead. Seems to work OK...

Got a 58 I bought in South Africa a few years ago. Been meaning to take these off for a while as I am sure they are not a Vw part. They are some sort of extra front beam brace, perhaps to help cope with SA's poor roads?
They were bolted to the curved front of the pan on both sides and a rod to the upper and lower tubes on the front beam.
Can I throw them away?

Thanks Mr Timmerman. It's definately home made and trying to be something like that part in your link.I did not know such a thing existed as an upgrade.
Decision made, these can go in the bin. Thanks.

OK I am new to Ghia's and I am starting a build on a 64 convertible for the wife. I picked the car up in boxes and am now going through them, not all the parts have been for a ghia the guy who I bought it from also rebuilt Toyota FJ's I came across these two panels and am not sure they are a part of the ghia. Someone drilled a lot of holes in it for a speaker I am guessing. Here is the picture

Looks like convertible hinge covers. They go in the back seat area, and cover the top assembly mounting points etc. There are metal and plastic versions. The metal ones were used on earlier cars.

Thanks John! Would the metal ones be correct for a 64?

I don't know if you ever got an answer, but one way to figure out what year this is from is how many attach screws does it have. According to HOG one attach screw on each side means 56-59, two screws on each side then it's from a 60-67.
If it's a 56-59, do you want to sell it? I need one for my '59

This came off my 63 convertible. It looks broken but I can't find what it is to look it up for a replacement. I think it is a licence plate bracket but can't find a part number.

it does look like a lic plate holder. It wont have a VW part #, not VW. They were dealer installed IIRC...so different depending on location, license size...

Mystery sticking out of the engine compartment tarboard, looks like it's for some sort of vacuum hose?

I am guessing you have around a 71= Ghia. If that is the case that is the tube that vents the gas tank fumes to the motor compartment. You will find the other end up near the gas tank on the passenger side.

Can someone tell me what this part in the red box is for? I have a 63 and this seems to push out the hinge cover on my vert (i.e. the hinge cover wont fit right). So what could be the issue and what is this for? Is this supposed to fit snug against the hinge cover?

Attached a picture from two small metal pieces I disassembled years ago from my 58 Coupe. I am sure they belong to the interior but I can't remember where exactly they were fixed. I made millions of pictures from all parts but this one I forgot. HELP Wink

I found these sheet metal pieces in a parts lot that I bought with some buses. I am not sure what they exactly go to as I have never owned a ghia before.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,Daniel
