What years locking deck lid latch will fit a 66 lid? |
It depends on if you care about it using a second key or not.. or mind a little modification and filing.
65-66 use a 2 piece design, and use the 65/66 profile key lock.
67-71 (chrome button) will fit with a very slight deck lid modificatiion, that is under the lid lock and never seen. They use a different profile key. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

Thanks, I found an ad for one that says 66-67 with a SC code, maybe he meant 65-66, I'll e-mail him! _________________ BWD

If you want one key to match the ignition, door, and decklid lock, its important to find the one with the same profile lock as your current key.
Many lid lock profiles are available, but in 1967, the "K" profile lock was introduced for the USA, so the 67 and newer lid lock cylinder is different.
Other countries still used the older profile single sided key, so finding just about any combination is possible. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

I'm looking for SC codes, I have a K code ignition and a crap unknown door lock, so I need all three. WW has a new door handle that they make and it has a SC code, I plan on getting one, so I need an ignition and lid lock to match! _________________ BWD

Good idea.... This was given to me a few years ago for a 1967 deck lid.

Top vent length is 8 and 7/8 inch (looking straight down on vent, dark to dark, not surface to surface,using a tape measure, so the curve of the deck is accounted for), each vent length (horizontal) decreases by 1/16 inch in length, 5 total, with the lowest one being 8 and 5/8 inch in length. The vents are on 5/8 inch centers. Each of the vent openings is 3/8" wide. Vents lines line up on the center side, and are staggered on the outside. Dimension from the top of the deck lid line from where it drops to the inside of the body to the inside edge of the top vent (vertical) is 3 and 3/4 inch. Distance between the inside top vents (horizontal) is 5 and 3/4 inch.
All dimensions are from the deck lid of my 67 vert - stock.

And another found

I bought this used while I was doing body work 15+ years ago. Never even wondered what year it was from. I can't tell if it's a 67, 68, 69. I cant seem to tell the difference between these years. And yes, I think it looks awful now.

It is a 68-69 Sedan.
Appears to be smoothed to eliminate the license lamp housing.
Yours
For reference

Yes, sir I welded up the holes. Kinda wish I hadnt done that. I just think it looks stupid. I want to drill holes and put the tag back on the deck lid, but my freinds tell me,"Dont do it." The drill will probably come out this winter anyway.
What is exactly is the difference between the 67 vs. 68-69??? |

The 1967 one year only lid is a little longer at the bottom, but its basically the same shape as a 68 and newer.
You will also notice the license light and license plate are both moved up in 1968, as the lid shrunk, and the apron grew....
Best when compared side by side.. or at least near each other..

I are confused now. I was convinced that my deck lid was from a 63. I just saw another 66 with the small licence plate light cover. I LIKE the deck lid and didnt want to get rid of it if it was not correct.. Help?!?!

I cant totally tell if you have a standard car but you have a standard deck lid..
You have a 65/66 Standard Decklid. Specifically 66 if you have the 1300 emblem. You can tell by the small license lamp, lack of the flare outward in the presssing above the license lamp, and the push button latch.

I see chrome on your car, so it may not be a Euro Standard.. but a Canadian "Custom" ...(or none of the above..), chrome, less headliner and a few other key features..

It's a Deluxe (I've been told) with the metal sunroof. Just thought that 63 was the last year for the small light on the rear.. then I've stumbled across a couple of 66's that seem to have the same decklid that I have???
I'll be bothering others soon on what engine this thing has in it.. There is no F code.. so im lost on it also! _________________ 65 Sedan..

Well with the mountain of other VW chores and wants that I have staring me in the face.. I'll keep it until another proper deck falls into my lap.. I keep my eye on craigslist just in case. Thanks for the info! _________________ 65 Sedan..
