Thanks.

If you're needing a dash pad right now, I'd contact Retrovan, as he's making ABS (I think) dash pads in BOTH left and RHD. Granted, these are actually the earlier style pad too (without the speaker holes), but it might be easier to trim the front edge for your car than the ones John is making. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Sure is.
PM John. You'll need to send him the plastic rings from your old dash. |

It's all go.
I have made five so far with the first two going in the bin and three shipped but they are better with each one we make. 95%
As others mention I need to collect the plastic gauge ring inserts from an old dash as these get recycled into the new ones.

Hey Rich,
There is a squareback being wrecked in Wanganui. Its left hook and the dash has seen better days. Brent has the car on TM so see if he'll sell you the rings. |

Pulled the first pigalle dash pad ( number 8 so far) from the moulds and it looks great.
With the different colour this highlights the original plastic ring inserts.
The handle in the picture is a NOS pigalle handle supplied by the customer.

W-O-W!! That's is way cool! I'm sure the RHD Pigalle owners will be over the moon with those. When the LHDs come available, It'll be a welcome piece for them as well. BUT what would be cool would be to create a teaser Yeti dash - an AZURE! Congrats on your skills. Look forward to seeing more on these dashes. _________________ MonT3

Nice.
A Pigalle would have been 66 only, and would have had full speaker holes, not the center part un-drilled. Other than that, looks fantastic and I would rock it in a heart beat |

Product looks great. High quality. Very original.
In all seriousness 68notch, you have a decent market demand for LHD. It seems to me it would be worth your while to purchase a really good LHD dash and start making these. I have already bought the RetroVan dash and it works for me now but if the price was reasonable I would buy one from you in a flash and I am pretty sure you could sell quite a few more.
If your not considering going into the LHD business maybe you could work with someone who is willling to and you could help them get started.
Maybe we could get a poll going on how many people would want to buy these (similar to the Tachometer survery) to see if it is worthwhile. |

as stated before though, it's not just "buy a really good LHD dash" There are 3 variations on the early ones alone
I have a good old school re-pop dash that I guess was available for some time. It was sold to me as genuine, but it's not. It's good but not perfect, It's a 67-69 copy. 66 is the same except it's got the speaker grill completely drilled out, no space in the middle like the one above. This is the same for the early N cars, (except maybe not the chrome strip??) The final would be the early wraparound dashes, full speaker holes, but "spock" ears on the corners.
and thats just the early ones, I can't speak to the late ones at all
In my mind, whomever created the early re-pop I have, did it right. Non wraparound, seperation in the speaker grills. they can always be drilled for early cars. It fits more cars than anything else.

The people who are most likely to pay for a quality repop want the wrap around dash, IMO. Just look at the prices when the wrap dashes show up in the classifieds as a validation point.
Although, to your point, the left-hand version of what is currently being made would satisfy the largest group of people but would still leave a gap.
I have two early cars and would not put an incorrect dash on them.
There are 6 versions listed in the parts book, btw. |

Yes, I understand there are several versions. That is why I suggested if anyone (68notch) is interested they should create a poll to see what demand is out there for the various versions. To see if it is worthwhile (like any business decision). Same as done for the Tachometer.
Many of us would jump at that type of dash even if it were not 100% correct IMHO. It will be difficult to please everyone. |

There are more than 6 versions though. The 3 I mentioned above, plus the RHD versions of the same. That's 6. Then there are the late versions, LHD and RHD
I have no knowledge of making stuff like this. I do however live in Houston, and it probably wouldnt be that hard to have them made here. EPA Schmee P A and all. If anyone wants to do some legwork and find such a company to do this type of work in Houston, I'll help. Or point me in the right direction of the type of company to look for. I may be able to financially back some of it too. The one I have is quality, and it sounds like they were readily available in the 80's and early 90's. It is however a repop, and I don't think it's necissarily a good idea to re-pop a re-pop |

Erik and Ataraxia,
I was just trying to encourage 68Notch to look into expanding into the LHD market or help someone else.
Coming from a manufacturing background, the key is creating the molds. Once the molds are made the process of making the dashes should be essentially the same. What 68Notch needs is masters (good dashes) to create the molds.
I don't know if 68Notch wants to be in the business of making dashes. Only he can answer that. If not, maybe he would be willing to share his process with someone who is.
68Notch, do you want to expand what you are doing to LHD? Even if it might require procuring masters? |
