I think yours will fit/seal as mine looks just like it. My 173mm hose fits fine & clamps inside the fenderwell on my '69.

and just to clarify.

I am talking about the hose. It is different. Its longer than the one you have.

Mike is probably right. if you clamp it down good it would probably work until you find the right part.

Check to see if Joel (Boo Kooz) has one.

Does anyone know if there is a replacement rubber seal for the cap that is on the oil level dipstick? Mine disintegrated when tried to remove it...

Yup! I'm finally on my way to making the car run. Actually, I already started her up and am currently tuning the motor. Having trouble making the engine idle at 800 rpm. I think i'm having trouble with the valve lash. Its been pretty hard trying to set the correct lash using the engle 120 cam. First time using this cam and have been adjusting the valve as I normally would on any other vw cam that i've used. Maybe my valves seats are sinking or maybe the cam is prematurely wearing!

Anyhoos, i'll check on that beetle part. Yes, it is the rubber stuff under the cap.

After tuning the engine for a couple days already, I've come to the conclusion that the Engle 120 cam is not EFI friendly. hahaha, like it didn't know...I knew it was going to be a little hard to tune, but I didn't know it was going to be this difficult. I was finally able to get the engine idle down to about 850, but it is a rough idle that I'm not happy about. At 850 rpm, the engine really likes more ignition advance, about 14 degrees. The vacuum signal really sucks too, about 77kpa. However, once you go past 1200 rpm, the vacuum signal drops down to about 45-50kpa.

I think I'm going to take apart the engine and drop in a EFI friendly cam that has little to no valve overlap! Anyone have any cam suggestions?

Tuning session today was a disaster. While messing around with the idle control valve with the engine running, it sucked in a silicone o-ring. I disassembled the intake system, but can't find the o-ring. It seems like the o-ring is preventing a valve from closing because the engine sounded like it was running on two cylinders. I guess I'll have to tear down the top half of the engine. =( Any suggestions that I should do before tearing it down?

On a positive note, at least it was a silicone o-ring instead of a nut/bolt! Should have no damage...I hope!

Look at it this way - now you have _two_ reasons to tear down your motor.

Probletunity!

Might try an Engle TCS cam?
I know nada about building a turbo motor,
But it seems like Engle does.

You can also call Webcam on the telephone and talk to a human who knows.
Last time I did that, it was quite refreshing to be treated so well.
Just like old times! Very Happy

I like the way you think! Hahahaha I'll give Webcam and Engle a call to see what they recommend. I talked to CB Performance, but since Pat wasn't in, they weren't too helpful.

As far as the engine goes, I decided to do a compression test on the cylinders to see if all the valves were closing properly. I got really lucky since the compression test with the engine cold came out to 150 across the board. Therefore, I added more fuel, cleaned my fuel filters, did some small adjustments, and she started right up! Seriously dodged a bullet there! I'm guessing the o-ring shot out and is stuck somewhere in the vintage speed exhaust system. I'm waiting for my inspection camera to come in so that I can take a look into my combustion chambers and confirm that the oring isn't there.

I was also able to tune the idle so much better at 900 rpm. Still a little lopey, but very steady. For now, I think I will keep this cam and see how it goes on the street.

For now, car is up and running!

Are you 100% sure the o-ring got 'sucked' in?
There is a lot of 'blowing' too, what with intake reversion and all.
Maybe that o-ring is sitting in the grass out by your driveway?

Having an engine sometimes both sucks and blows! Laughing

If it indeed made it through to the exhaust,
It will be turned into ash and blown out in short order anyhow.

Gotta just love a problem that just solves itself!

A small update. The VW is at its new home in its own small 2 car fully enclosed garage.

I was able to drive the fasty up my scary 30 degree incline driveway that goes for about 150 ft with an elevation change of about 40 - 50 ft. The fasty made it up like I was driving downhill with my previous 1600. This motor should be very fun to drive on the street!

Hopefully I will start working on the car again within a month or so. I still have to finish tiling up my bathroom at the new place.

Been too long since an update. I had to do a bunch of stuff to my new place before I could start on the fasty. Main goal was to make storage for all my tools and setup my work bench in the garage. So I built a bunch of cabinets, added a bunch of 120v and 220v outlets, installed nice bright recessed lighting, and installed a nice 7.2 surround sound system. hahaha

Once majority of the garage cabinets were complete, I started to work on a 2003 cbr F4i that I picked up for $600. It was in bad shape. Luckily the bike came with a complete parts bike that was also trashed. I cannibalized the parts bike to make one complete bike. I had to fix all the broken plastics and rash. Once that was complete, I repainted the entire bike the original silver and black graphics. The original bike came with stickers, but figured since I have the paint, it'll be cheaper than buying the graphics for it. Here it is when I bought it

Started working on the frunk lid and just as I suspected, I had the same problems as the trunk lid. This lid was not straight at all. There were a lot of low spots that had to be filled. You can see the low spots that show up as darker gray. The lighter gray is the high build I shot after the epoxy. One round of filler and another round of high build should take care of it.

Does anyone know what the shape of the edge that meets up with the fender should be? Is it a gradual curve just like the rest of the lid or does is it a decreasing radius for approximately the last 1" or so before it meets the fender? Just asking because my lid looks like its a decreasing radius for the first front half then flattens out for the rear half...I just want to confirm this before shaping it.

This sounds right. The "frunk" basically curves in 2 directions at the same time. This makes you feel like you're "bondoing a bowling ball". Sorry, but that's the best explaination I can give for that. Wink

MonT3 - The oring was never found, but the car runs great so i'm not so worried about it. I'm sure its stuck in the exhaust somewhere...I hope. hahaha

This weekend, I was able to complete the blocking of the frunk and trunk lids. I will be painting these tomorrow night since I have some leftover activator for my ppg clear that I have to use up before 14 days after opening. I'll be spraying the ppg dcu2021. I also built some upright stands for the lids to be painted on both sides at once to save on time. It was really cheap to make and took literally 30 mins to build both. Its pretty sturdy and should make painting these a snap.
