Inspiring work! I have taken a few days to read the whole thread and now have a couple of questions - forgive me if i have missed the answer in the text previously:
How on earth did you find the 66 - it looks like it was VERY well hidden!!
What did you use to fold the seam over on the end of the nose panel repair?
Keep up the good work and updates (even if they are about restoring your new 73 beetle)
Cheers,
Dave |

Hi dave
i had roamed the junkjard years before and there were a couple of slpits there. on an earlier trip i couldnt find them anymore (most of them were allready rescued). the last time i really looked hard and found the last one there....
i used a flat sheetmetalhammer to slowly bend the fold, only a couple of degrees at a time. when folded far enough i did the rest with pliers.
thanx for the kind words _________________ 61 panel: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=465022

thanx!
i aquired a 72 bug in the meantime, a real survivor. it was parked for the owner was not able to drive it anymore. just too good of a deal to pass
it has its share of rust problems, mainly in the front the spare wheel well and the endpieces, but it has just 89000km (about 55K miles) and was never welded, its matching numbers too (1200cc engine)
so the race is on to get it ready for the 1st of may for the meeting in Eggenburg (complete repaint is due)
so the bus is on hold...... _________________ 61 panel: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=465022

before tacking in the new lower sidewall i had to repair the lowest louver that i had to cut out for it being too mangled up for further repair.
a donor piece was used, but this was just not high enough so i had to insert another strio of sheetmetal to extend it to the repair section
