This year I have done about 6000 Km with the square, most of it on the open road , it was really nice, now that winter is coming it is going to rest until spring
I will post some photos from summer, later on
First I got this Dash from Eurodub, that I mounted on the wall in my room

Great car, and great to see that it is being well enjoyed! I believe some asked already, but do you have a larger picture, or any other pictures of the lug mounted rotisserie? Looks like a neat setup. |

Hi
So spring has come, and it is time to start driving the square, last fall, i had some problems with my clutch and temporarily instaled my original periferical spring clutch plate , but I think something is wrong with that cltuc plate because it chaters very badly, so today I got a brand new diaphragm plate, that I will instal shortly, along wit a NOS pressure bearing
My problem and question at the same time is that I noticed for some time now, that while cruising at 80-100 km/h in 4th gear, it has the tendency to pop out of gear into neutral, not very often , but I now hold my hand as a safty on the shifter at all time.
Can this come from the gear shift leaver or is it inside the gearbox? I know ther are some positioning holes for the gears wich are ball and spring loaded inside the gearbox, can it also be from here?
How can I fix this?
I realy want to get this done , now that I`m taking the engine out for the clutch
Thanks

The problem, is that the 4th gear fork and syncro is shot, and the trans needs to be rebuilt. The problem that caused it, is also your temporary solution, in that the PO used to leave his hand on the shifter, causing extra wear on the shifter fork and syncro. That extra weight caused the problem.
You could always set up a bungee cord, to hold in in 4th, if you take long extended trips out on the motorway. But the best solution, is to rebuild the trans. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

this problem first appeard years ago, but it has really gotten worse in the past 2 years, the temporary clutch was done last fall, and it only chaters in 1st gear when getting started from a stand still position
I also thought it my be the 4th gear fork and syncro mechanism
I`m probably going to take it a part, myself , since there is no shop I would take it to. I have a nother gearbox, but its badly rusted on the interior , but the fork mechanism seems ok.
One more thing , by taking apart the gearbox, is there a chance I will ruin the fine tollarences and spacing , on the attack gear with the main dif. gear.? if i remount it with the exact number of spacing washers? it shouldn`t be a problem should it?
any vital tips for the job?
I`m a mechanical engineer ,and have a mechanics shop at home,so i`m use to fiddling with spaners and working on the car myself, but we don`t work on gearboxes usualy.
Thanks

You could try and order up a Brown Bentley. It'll cover the trans rebuilding too. Unfortunately for you, the brown Bentley covers USA models, and might be slightly different for the "home market" models. Most of it will be the same though, but US models got high back seats, sealed beam headlights, Fuel Injection (no carbs are covered), and little things that, that are different. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Today I got the gear shift lever out, and greased it up good and reinstaled is, fiddling around with the setting , with the two screews, now I think it locks into 2nd and 4th gear better then before, so I might not rebild the gearbox
this car has 180.000 kms, arund 110.000 miles, mostly done in the city, thats why I don`t think it cold be the gearbox, but I will see in the near future, if it still jumps out of gear or not . |
