I would like a decent media/sand blaster for the body work I'm doing right now without breaking the bank. I had a harbour frieght p.o.s. a few years back and all it did was plug so no junk ones please! |

I have had two HF sandblasters. The first one was a siphon style and it sucked. It plugged up so much that I spent more time fixing the plugs than I did blasting. This is the first one, $34.99 and worthless.
Then I got this pressurized one for $59.99
This one has worked great. No plugging to speak of at all. In fact, today I spent a couple of hours blasting with it in very high humidity (just beat the rain) and it did not plug up once. I would recommend this to anyone with a decent compressor. _________________ Ken

The one I had looked like the second one and plugged all the time. I do have a huge very nice compressor. Where did you get that one? |

I used the second type just recently to blast my entire bus. It only plugged up from crappy filters and filtering. _________________ 1978 Transporter, 2.0L FI |

Maybe if I got a new moisture trap it would help. I would like to see other options people have used and that worked well. |

It wasn't moisture, it was shit that got tracked into the blasting room. I would pull off the tip to blow out a stick or rock each time I refilled the tank.

I have one like the second.
Had a little trouble plugging but it was my sand. Changed brands and have never had trouble again.
Now if I could just find a good helmet that doesn't fog up. |

Alot of plugging is due to the compressor working too hard, packing your water separator in ice helps alot, but those siphon models are double doomed.
If you're recycling sand hit the dollar store for a metal screen pasta colander or seive from the kitchen department, makes the job sooooooo much more tolerable if you sift the sand before it goes back in the pot. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

just a couple weeks ago I Used the H.F. With a medium grit sand
I cut an old speaker grill down to fit in the funnel to filter the sand
you need a good water separator.I have a big one on the compressor and a small one right on the blaster
I Wore out the tip need to go get some new ones before I do anything else.
came out nice |

Thanks for the answer! I guess I will take my chances with the H.F. one and btw, that single looks sick! |

Sorry I should have said mine is a H F one. the biggest girl they had. I think it was a 100 lb. model. Got it on sale. It came with a small water separator on it.
Bus daddy is right about the compressor working to hard and creating condensation. And a cheap air compressor will create more than a better quality one. |

I've got the second one, and it works great. I like that you can get almost an entire 40 pound bag of sand into it. I too was has a plugging up problem, but soon found that it was the rubber washer they use between the end shut off, and the ceramic nozzle. Once I removed that washer, I was good to go. I'd get about 20 to 30 minutes of blasting at a time, before I needed to refill the tank with another bag. Like mentioned above, you need a good compressor, and a water trap. My compressor is a V4 with an 80 gallon tank (from TSC, 13 years ago), but it does get a work out. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I got the Red one too... 5hp compressor works like mad, but that's why I got it, eh?! I have only used 'Play Sand' from Lowes filtered with some window screening, but I don't do this much. I suspect I would look for better medium if I was doing something as nice as Tom. I just use a Tokyo subway mask and goggles; sand gets everywhere!

think the pressurized tank unit cuts much better than a siphon style. most are unfortunately made in china. mine works ok as long as i keep the media strained (i sweep and reuse) and the air dry. i use the disposable plastic style filter on the tank inlet. i use as small a tip opening as possible for the media . they do enlarge pretty quickly with a lot of use. the smaller tip makes the air go farther for me. |

I have a 5hp compressor with a 20 tank. Do you think this would do the job? |

If you use play sand you have to dry and sift it. I have the cheaper TSC model right (jobPro?) now and the ceramic nozzle is too small. They wear down so the more you use them the bigger they get and the better they work. Craftsman makes one as well. Both are siphon types. 5Hp works fine for me. If it's hot out, place a fan to blow on it.
If the sand is in good condition ,siphon types work fine. I have never warped a piece of sheet metal with them either which is why I don't think the pressure units are a good idea. _________________ My beetle is not competing with your beetle. My old siphon blaster seemed to work just as well as my new 20 lb HF pressure blaster. I filter all my Home Depot sand through a window screen during loading & find sand blaster plugging bits of the paper bags etc in the sand! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts
