The car is one of the racing cars, Petermax Müller from Velpke nearby Wolfsburg build in the late 1940s. One of them exist at Prototype-Museum in Hamburg, another one in a private collection of a died Racingdriver.

Ah yes, the landing craft marine engine conversion from Vogelsang! When I first started at my current company back in '85 (in northern NJ), my direct supervisor at the time was from Frankfurt Germany. In the early '50's he worked in the repair shop of the VW & Porsche distributor (also a dealer) in Frankfurt (Gloeckler), at the time the various Gloeckler special race cars were being built. In any case, he told me about the Vogelsang engines, that they were basically "grenade" engines which were expendable for reliability, but made utmost power during the short runs from the ship to the shore. I never saw such an engine until the article in VolksWorld, even though I saw the race car at the VW Museum in the mid '90's.

Is there anyone on the Samba that still owns one of these engines? I like early speed stuff like the Fischer amal carb kits for 25hp, or the weird homemade kits people did before production kits came out like Denzel or Okrasa. I never saw this one before. Tim
