Wife had a coupe and sold it in the late 80's, wanted another for her 50th. Found this rust free vert, i have work to do, already pulled motor. Have stock wheels and searching for stock bumpers. Love the Ghia.

Best of luck with her, the samba classifieds may have many of the parts you're looking for. _________________ ----------------------

My 71 Ghia, which I've had about a year now. Knocking on wood, but this one has behaved extremely well since I bought it as a project. One of the few VW's that I ever got cheap, anticipating spending lots of $$$ and effort to make into a daily driver, but it surprised me and went straight into daily driver mode with only a used battery and bleeding and topping off the brakes, new tires, and 4 ball joints. And resetting the rear torsions to stock height. That was it! The thing has been reliable as all get out and I've already taken it on several 600 mile round trips.
The engine, of unknown heritage except it looks like a totally stock 1600 dp, is the nicest running air cooled VW I've ever had. It has a sticker on the fan shroud from Ebert's VW Repair in Santa Cruz, CA. Doesn't even leak oil, like some of my VW's that I've spent thousands of $$ on getting new engines, etc, and they still leak. And gets down the road at 70 without a hitch.
So here's a pic as bought, before raising the rear back up:
And a few afterwards:

Thanks! It's far from perfect, but I like how unique it is. |

New Zealand at its very best. Blue sky, volcanic rocks, sandy beaches, Pacific islands and hilly pastures, winding coastal road through indigenous forests, biker on his breakfast run, and with, as she refers to herself, my "first wife".
The car feels better every day. The engine runs smoother, the gear changes are tight, the steering is direct and the brakes quite firm. The exhaust note sounds just right, a bit throatier than the original muffler. What's not to like? Mm! Some second gear hills, and long stretches of third gear climbs.

We took the Ghia to a classic car show at Brooklands. Didn't see any other Ghias but did enjoy being parked under Concorde's nose!
