The Mecum auction caller is completely awful.
If you're bored at work and turn down the volume it's not that bad

I attended this. Both days, I only live about 50 miles away. Pretty disappointing lot of stuff, but I got the back story. This is about the 3rd sale he has had. Perhaps he is hanging on to some better stuff? The late owner's son seems personable and says he prefers to sell on TheSamba, but needed to raise cash quickly.
The 58 convert went for $2000. Quite rusty, but most key parts still there.I have to say, a couple of the type 1’s, 58, 62, 64, 65, 66 and 67 and the squareback might have been good restoration cars. I did not much notice the price, but I think the blue 65 went for $120. I was mostly interested in the 69 single cab. It was pretty original, but medium rusty: windshield lower, front floor, both rocker assemblies, both treasure chest doors. Back glass crazed ready to fall out. They already removed and sold the engine. Non original gates made from wood, but using all original fasteners. I was thinking I’d be tempted if it was around $1000 or less, but it went to $2100.
The Green Ghia convert was horribly rusty.
Most of the others were VERY rusty. And the market reflected that. But most all of these had been stored in the upstairs loft of the former lumber yard. Hardly a single broken glass, but the open cars had lots of raccoon poop in them. (Be care of THAT. Like rat feces, it can harbor mold spores that cause FATAL reactions in humans. Remove it like asbestos.)
The parts quantity was mind boggling, but very much of it did not even sell. I bought several stacks of wide 5 wheels, 2 early bus 15, about 10 bug wheels, and about 20 64-70 bus wheels. gave about $30 for all of them.
There was a hay rack with about 50 engine cases all lined up and labeled. A few went for $50 or more; most for $5-$10. Pretty sad; there was a lot of valuable stuff there. (Definitely not the best way to maximize ones assets!)
My compliments to the Hoge Auction company. They did a good job, got through the stuff rather quickly enough and had about 10 staff there and a skid loader. They earned their money and I’m sure it was not easy as the property is long and skinny and only one track between the sheds. Very nice personable, small town folks.

Okay i guess i will post it....
Barrett Jackson is coming to town, well they are here. They are selling this week down the street from us at Mohegan Sun Casino. Here is the docket for cars
http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Docket...06-28-2016
Delivered a truck there yesterday for a client. The Bay Bus was there but did not see any other VWs in the drop parking lot but they were moving cars as quickly as they could so they might have been some already in the tent lot. Lots of workers and some the big boy buyers "casing" out the cars. |

Please tell us more, lipstick on a pig?, or just a little flipperdust here and there?
That one is interesting since it looks like a reasonably solid and not too molested mostly OG ish used bus, I'm curious how it fares against the shiny turds with the funky upholstery and chromy EMPI parts. But if there's well disguised demons lurking beneath let us all know now. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Some repaint for sure. Rust bubbles showing. Walkthrough seat stand ripped. Molding dents. It did look overall as a stock Bus. Did not go through it hard as I was awaiting the check in guy so I could drop but these were just the quick things I saw. Shiny turds with funky interiors,,,, Yes

I'm also throwing in a recent Leake auctions (seen in Discovery's Fast and Loud a few times) as well. Enjoy!

I've seen that double cab in person. It's good work, however it's never going to be a stock beauty again. I'd be embarrassed to show up to a VW meet with it.
Its weird how this same story plays out over and over. "Gonna keep it forever and it's my bus so ill do what I want with it. Oh wait I want a paycheck for my wacky disaster that used to be a VW."
Btw the door handle has been like that since last year and it still drives me nuts seeing it that way. |

Barrett Jackson will be back to Mohegan Sun for awhile. Picked up a car and got the paperwork tour (2 hour mess....) so dealt with a few different BJ workers. They are very happy with the facility and happy to come back. |

Indeed, quite repugnant.
That one sure gets around, it was on CL here for years for varying amounts, sometimes nearing $100K IIRC, built by some local rod guru, I guess someone took the bait and it went south?
The Sundial looks nice, almost like a clean well preserved survivor aside from the front seats, I guess it lacks the bling factor and/or well known brand, they should have thrown a repro rack and surfboard on it. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
