1956 Beetle convertible - $47,300. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1956-VOLKSWAGEN-BEETLE-CONVERTIBLE-188985

I was checking on the lot numbers for what I thought would be going across today on TV, looks like a bunch of others have gone across today already:

1974 Thing - $25,300. (!) http://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1974-VOLKSWAGEN-THING-CONVERTIBLE-189446

Quite a few still left to go, including all of the Bus models. Any guesses? Very Happy

1115 just went for 75k. Not terrible. Pretty fair price for a 21.

Definitely. Love your avatar, by the way! (slightly partial)

The other one for sale tonight went for the exact same cost as well - I think they were similar to each other but a few small differences. I don't pay much attention to auctions and I'm especially am not familiar with the Beetle/Bus market, but still fun to watch. A few more to come on tomorrow and Sunday.

I am waiting for the HACK coming...
If this breaks 70k someone will have been taken for a bit of a ride.

This one was VERY nicely done.... I went all over it and David has done a great restoration on it. I will be in the bleachers watching this one go.

Midwest built 21 Window, $110,000 (updated by B-J), It was very stock, a few modifications like the Safari's but very well built.

This 1956 Samba was pristine and I can't believe it only got $99,000 (updated by B-J). There was so much detail everywhere on this one, how it sold for less that the above 1966 21 is baffling. Both are great buses, but this was the better bus.

Quite a bit of a ride at an extra $16,900 . . sold for $86,900. Eh?

$90,000.

edit: Just saw #1441 go as well, auctions officially confuse me! I thought the '56 would bring a bigger number. The other two 21 windows from yesterday were at $75,000.

The earlier 23 (Docket 1115 sold last night) was also built by the shop that sold today's 1960 Mouse Grey 23 and the Turks (barf) 1966 21 window. They were painted ok, but it was JC Whitney vs NOS to compare the these three bus to the 1956 that went tonight.

I never considered the B-J buyer an educated buyer, but someone got a great deal in that bus tonight.

Boy.. They must have been a real bidding war on that Ghia. Judging by the pics it left a lot to be desired for that kind of money.. Starting to wonder if I should auction mine.

I missed it by a few minutes on live stream - was curious who was bidding on it as well. The Ghia does not come across very often through both Barrett-Jackson and Mecum alike. It definitely makes you wonder what real life values are, against the estimates.

I'm also wondering about the late model Beetle convertibles. The 1977 in my previous post went for $30,800, yet a 1978 went for $10,450. First auction of 2016 in Scottsdale, a 1979 went for $34,100. I'm not quite sure why certain cars get so much more than others - unless I'm missing something. I feel like something as simple as colors will influence the prices dramatically.

just proves auction buyers have "more dollars than sense"

the engine compartment on that $11k beetle convertible is quite sad.
people just need to quit buying crap that's shiney on the surface..
bet this paint will begin to bubble in 2-3yrs and the charm will wear off then sell just as it's turning back into a pumpkin on an unsuspecting hobbiest.
