My buggy has a transaxle from rancho performance. They apparently deleted the reverse light switch as all there is where I"m used to seeing it is a bolt head. Where can I find a replacement switch? I'm apparently not using the right nomenclature as I'm not finding anything. _________________ Manxter #39 on a 1971 Pan

Another question about the backup switch. Like I said before, there's currently a plug of some kind in the hole where the switch should be. Can I unscrew that plug and screw in the switch without yanking the tranny? Should I expect fluid to flow out if I do? _________________ Manxter #39 on a 1971 Pan

No fluid should leak out, I believe you can get switch in without pulling tranny... You just have to have nimble fingers...

And there is a gasket for the switch. There may be one on the plug that you can use. _________________ Society is like stew. If you don't keep it stirred up, you end up with a lot of scum on the top!--Edward Abbey

I'd call rancho before I did anything and make sure a backup switch will work on their transaxels. _________________ "The music moves me, but it moves me ugly"

It will work.... Both do on my Rancho boxes...
The only problem in that area I ever had is somebody put the wrong plug in on transaxle I once had and it kept box from going into reverse!!!! Changed plug and went from previous owners blown transaxle to a good one....

Resurrecting a very old thread I know, but I have a sneaky feeling that's very similar to the problem I have at the moment with my new box !! _________________ 1969 UK Karmann Ghia build http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=518789&highlight= |

IF some one used a oil gallery pressure or relief plug from ENGINE in transaxle, YEP that is your problem... Engine plug is a tiny bit longer than transaxle plug and blocks reverse slider...
