|
|
In 1969, my Father and I started to build a Meyers Manx kit straight from Bruce Meyers factory in Fountain Valley, Ca. It took us 2 years, but we finally got the buggy on the road. I learned to drive in this vehicle. My Father and I raced it at most of the Bug In's in So. Cal. through most of the 70's and early 80's. In 1985, my parents retired and moved to Washington State. My Father raced at SIR and Bremerton for a number of years until that fateful day came when he decided to retire from drag racing. In the early 90's, my Father traded the car for a 1963 Corvair Monza Spider Turbo to someone in the Seattle area. It was raced a few times, and has since disappeared from sight. I'm looking for this car. If anyone has any information on the whereabouts of this car, I would love to try and get it back into the family.
Thank you for your help.

Sorry, I don't have the VIN anymore on the buggy. It was lost through a few moves. The body was originally a Gold Metalflake, and the body is 3/4" thick instead of the standard 1/4. Dad painted the car Red a few years before he traded it. Again, thanks for any help. |

Did you try to check that plate number with the Washington DMV like someone suggested?
If yours was made between 1968 and mid 1970 approx, it would have a tag that would have its production serial number. The tag on yours would have ended either 03E (pale gold metalflake), 04E(dark gold metalflake), 05E (golden fiesta metalflake) or 07E (golden orange metalflake).
You can join the Manx Club, buy a copy of the registry and go through it and find all the buggies with the gold metalflake codes and try to contact the last registered owners. You can also try to contact all the last registered owners in the Seattle area(about 20) and see if any of them recall seeing your old Manx. |

Referencing the above mention of the Manx Registry. The MANX Club DOES NOT publish the MANX Registry. The MANX Registry is maintained & published by Winnie Meyers at Meyers Manx, Inc. Their site is at: www.meyersmanx.com. |

Unfortunately, I don't have those numbers anymore. They were lost after a move into a new home. I will check with the DMV on the plates, however in the state of Washington, all license plates are replaced every seven years, so I doubt it would have the same one. Thanks again for everyones help. |

I'm not sure you understand what I meant. If your Manx was made during the period I mentioned, the last three digits on its serial number tag will be one of those I mentioned(most probably 07E). That would narrow your search if you got a copy of the registry. |

Thank you, and I think your right. I'll PM Winnie at the site. Who knows, she might even have a copy of the original sales slip to my father. |

Bruce left the company before they went out of business in 71. He doesn't have anything like the company records, just some personal picture albums, etc. The production information they have is Bruce's memory and what they've been able to reconstruct since they started the registry 15 years ago. |

LoneWolf,
As I said I would, I asked a few folks that I still know from the vw scene that time and place in the Northwest if the remembered your buggy. I wasn't very active in racing up here but knew several people who were. One guy remembered the car from around that time but couldnt remember anything about the driver...it might have even been your dad.
I don't see these people often, but as I run across them now and again, I'll keep your search in mind. If I turn anything I'll get in touch. |
