Hello All,
Well, it's game back on to the finish now. I know I've said this before, but this time is for real. I'm ashamed to say that after I last worked on the car, I didn't even think to put a car cover over it. The bug was literally covered in a layer of dust and debris. It was heartbreaking. But, with the help of my best buddy and some time, we got her clean again. From there, we installed the vent windows, window regulators, driver and passenger door glass. Also installed the door seals. I've decided that due to time constraints, I'm going to have the interior professionally done. The shop I've chosen won't be ready for another 3 weeks or so. During that time, I'm going to finish up wiring and some other things. When it comes back, it will basically be a matter of an ops check and putting it on the road. I think I'm just a couple months always, at this point. Here are some photos from this last weekend.
After getting the door guts back in, I temporarily placed a door panel in to see how it looked. All that time/energy I spent getting the wheel paint matched to the interior color really paid off.

Thank you, Sir. Yep, this is it for sure. Long story behind the hiatus, but it doesn't matter anyway. My wife is gonna kill me if I don't finish this car!! How many guys can say that?

Jumped on more wiring this weekend. Had to re-seal my headlights. The lens to frame seal just straight-up desintegrated while sitting on a shelf in my shop. Wish we could get better rubber parts. Oh well.
Rats nest of wiring. Makes me crazy.
Made some pigtails for the parking light power supply and ground (ground not pictured).
Headlights wired and installed for a long time (I hope).

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's going really good. I didn't snap pics (not sure why), but I had removed the exhaust and had it coated. I got that all reinstalled. Wired up the entire engine compartment.....just a few wires, but still that's checked off the list and turned out really nice. Had a really good/productive weekend. What's really encouraging at this point is that I'm running out of spare parts, wires, etc. To my amazement, it's really just about done!!! My wife is elated. I think she is more excited than me! More to come. _________________ Be Plant-Strong!! Watch "Forks Over Knives" on Netflix

Not too much of a post here, but I got the coated exhaust reinstalled. The back end is essentially finished. Snapped some pics.

Forgot to post this. Found this while wiring up the engine. Just from sitting in my shop. Can we ever just get good quality rubber???

Still going strong. I received a box of goodies from Wolfsburg West on Friday, just in time for the weekend. I wanted to run arm rests on both doors. I guess the '66 only had one on the passenger side. A buddy of mine with a '63 let me have his handle support which had the tab I needed spot welded to it. I was able to drill it out and use two small bolts to attach it to my door. Sorry no pics. Just got too enthralled in the work.
My buddy and I debated on using plastic on the doors to prevent water from damaging the door panel. I knew it was the best thing, but I just didn't want to put plastic on the door. So, I decided to varnish the panel, making it waterproof. Worked great. After it dried, I threw water on the panel and it beaded up and rolled right off. I did, however, use weatherstrip adhesive to attach a plastic bag over the pocket. Got both door panels in, along with all 4 door handles and window cranks installed. Also, we got the steering wheel and turn signal switch permenantly installed.

Finally got the windshield seal chrome in. Holy mother of pearl!! Why is that so difficult? I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in a factory in Germany where they installed this piece. Good grief! Anyway, it's in. Windshield is in (don't have a pic of that). Just for kicks, decided to throw the seats in last night to see how it would look.

Well, hey, that sure is nice!! Thank you for your kind words. I sure am getting excited. I will say however, I'm learning the meaning of that old saying, "The last 10% of a project is 90% of the work". I'm really trying to keep momentum and not get hung up in the details.
Keep checking back. More to come.

Hey Jason, are you planning on having your bug ready to put in the Texas Classic in Fredricksburg in April? Maybe the Fort Worth Volks Folks show in November? Would LOVE to see it in person! _________________ .

Hey SW,
I'm not "planning" on Fredricksburg, but it's a very real possibility. It would be a dream of mine to go and if I make it this year, it would be even better. Anything after about April, you can bet on it. It's just a matter of if I know about the show and actually go. I'm a bit of a hermit on things like that. My buddies all seem to know when the shows are, so they'll probably hit me up anyway. 😀
Hope you get to see the car someday soon!!
