So finally overcame ob-stacle's and got to SC. I am waiting on dad to wake up so we can go an hour south of here to a garage on my Grandmother's place to begin the resurrectoning. I have two BFG 31x10.5's A/T's, two BFG 235/75 A/T's, a cleaned kadron kit, new marine battery, new exhaust, brake kits for 4 wheels, braided brake lines, tune-up kit from chirco and roadside emergency kit from chirco. Memorizing Lowbuggets site as I sit here and watching Top-Gear Bolivia challenge. I need the old man to get up. _________________ ---

Yessiree. I'm looking forward to finally meeting you, actually. But it probably won't be this weekend that she gets back Got a lot done, though, and with a little luck might even get to try to crank tomorrow.
The Good News
Everything seems to be there
Tires are mounted on the rims
The Carbs are clean
I can blow through all the fuel lines EASILY except for the big one that runs from the front to the back
all the fuel lines have been replaced
The exhaust system has been removed and replaced
I moved the fuel pump from the rear of the car to the front
I emptied the oil
I turned the motor by hand
replaced the the spark wires, distributor cap, rotor, points, plugs
I've got it all back together
The Bad News
Ball Joints are gone and I didn't bring any
Chirco or I made a mistake and I got the wrong exhaust. No heaters, now
Gas tank is a goner.
Left to Do:
get the appropriate oil filter and put it on
get new bolts for the carbs to the manifold
reweld the the front bumper to the beam
make a new bracket for the front bumper upper part
install a gas tank
tune and time
install battery
crank and hold breath
acquire and install new ball-joints
I need to figure out what the Oil Filter is on there, and then buy one, get the ball joints and a gas tank. I told my dad that I was just gonna take one of his 5 gallon portable gas cans and poke a hole in it to drive it home. I did it with a straight face, but could only hold it for 35 seconds before I broke. _________________ ---

As she sits, as I arrive.
Front End and Gas Tank Removed:
Front and rear end parts...
Not a good sign...
literally handfuls of this crap in there. Sounds like frozen milk being shaken...
what awaits me at the rear:
more bent than it looks... but I have BIG hammers.
As I left her:

Sunday I wasn't able to get much done. I did get the carbs fully on there, bolted down and hooked up and after wasting 20 minutes with the fuel pump hooked up backwards was able to get fuel to the carbs (though I wasn't able to see if any got IN the carbs). I was about 3 hands short holding a funnel hooked to the fuel line hooked to a dangling fuel pump (one of those annoying clicky-clicky ones) and cranking the car. Only was able to get one backfire, and that was the end of my experimentation because my helper was DONE at that point. Scared her (the helper), I think. But I did get oil in her (the car), and heard her (the car) turn over by her (the car's) own starter. I'll go back as soon as I acquire a gas tank, ball-joints, and outer tie rod joints. Also gotta figure out how to tune carburetors. Lowbugget here I come, again. _________________ ---

Let me know how the next trip goes, and if you have any problems with the tank. _________________ I suffer from a serious disorder : Volkswagenitis |

Terrible findings in valve cover on driver side. One of those little wavy things that hold the rocker arms in place broke in two and was lying in the bottom of the valve cover. I've got both pieces but there is some little metal rings like stripped thread from a 3/8 bolt and an odd little metal pin in the oil there.
So, recommended course of action at this point? _________________ ---

That is the remains of the spring clip that goes around the rocker shaft. The washers and wavy spring allow the rockers to float on the shaft, keeping side to side movement to a minimum. Check to make sure the heads, valves' and push rods are not damaged. Let me know what parts you need, I've got'em. _________________ I suffer from a serious disorder : Volkswagenitis |

ok, was planning on doing that... one question... how do I identify damage on those parts? I'm honestly not overly concerned about the wavy washer, though I know I'm not getting one this weekend, but the other thing that looks like a bent pin does have me worried. Any idea what that might be? _________________ ---

I found out what it was after pulling rocker arm assembly. It was part of the little clip thing that holds the washers in place. The back end of the rocker arm assembly lost both it's wavy washer and that clip broke so the exhaust valve rocker was loose and those parts were laying in the bottom of the head. I pulled the push rods to see if they were good and they look good. Gonna see if I can source the wavy washer and clip from a local dude, but definitely need to get the car closer so that these kinds of finds don't put me a month behind in working on the car. _________________ ---

I've got a Miata in GA I need to store in SC, so will probably just make a weekend exchange somehow. Unless someone wants to trade... _________________ ---

I put on the stainless steel brake lines and took apart the carbs to clean them again. The issues I've had with gummed up fuel make me think I can't do that enough. Continued to work on the fuel line issue, couldn't get the rocker-arm washers necessary to try and crank it. Took another look at the Ball joints and think the bottom ones will serve for a while which is a good thing since all I can get is tops. Attached connectors to all the wires I had to cut to take off the front end and tested lights and wires. Avoided certain parts of the family, listened to Hendrix. _________________ ---

Obviously, it's been a while. Spending 600 miles to work 12 hours just wasn't working. So, finally, the fiance and I went to get it. So now it is here, where I live, to be worked on. No garage but don't have to spend gas money to work on the car now and can literally just spend 30 minutes working on the car if I need to. So, without further ado, pics: _________________ ---
