Nice pic "Big Bill" & welcome to our thread.

Another LA 80's kid would always say "The girls loved chrome and we had plenty of it!"
Back then the "cha-cha's" in my neighborhood didnt know what they were looking at back there in the engine compartment but they were sure fascinated by all the sparkle. I remember once cruising at Whittier Blvd parked in one of the lots at the peak of the LA "Cal-Style Vdubs around 1986 a bunch of girls were walking the lot full of Vdubs pointing out & picking out the best looking engines.

Here's a cool story!
So I was at the local Vw dealer once a month cruise-in and I see this rare sighting of a slammed Cal-Style vert in Az... Ive seen it once or twice here and there and this time I happen to see the owner with it. I start rapping with the owner (named Ralph) and telling him how his vert Is Tha ShIIT and how it was what we would die for in the 80s if you lived in L.A. and he looks at me and says "the L.A. guys started this style". I thought that was cool!! It reminded me when I went up to a fellow Sambanista also in Az "Alexs64" and said about his bug "we used to call that Cal-Style back in tha day" and he replied " I know, that's why it wasn't called Utah Style or Washington Style".. Its always cool to run into the few heads that know whats up. Cool

Here's what I know about old school. Up until a few yrs ago everyone thought old school was new school! Na Na Na Na Na ! And until just a few years ago no one could correct the record, cause quite frankly no one could until we re-emerged to set the record straight. Cool

Thought out subtle chrome accessories on smoothies & whitewalls from the North East of LA Vintage Volksters C.C. early 1980's. I still love this way of building a VDub thanks to Bob Scott & Jaime Lopez of Vintage Volkswagen Parts, Glendale for supplying our Vintage Vdub obsession going back to 1978 in LA.

along time ago when we were young we use to have party's and make a lot of bread, VW clubs use to come from neighboring city's and show and shine.

Their where several fellows in our neighborhood that where gods that inspired me to this very day, one fellow stood out from the rest THE VW KIDD!!! I can remember him cruising down my block slammed black vert with alloys F#CK he was it.

In the begging was the KIDD, and because of him and a very dear friend of ours Carlos is the reason why I keep popping German metal after metal.

I even had a couple of Lambos because of the KIDD and I am currently working on a Jarama Lamborghini 1of 20 in the world.

Glad to see THE KIDD is back

For sure!!! When I got to HP in the summer of 84 I also immediately noticed a white bug layed out on all fours and alloys AND a big motor too boot. I even went back to my hood and told one of the Gs from my hood to come chk this pimp out Shocked:

I was just a lucky kid that grew up around lowriders & street racing in my neighborhood and with my love for both, combined the 2 taking my lead from Rene Ruelas (Dukes C.C). I'm pleased to this day going back then I inspired many guys & gals with my very "new" for the times "slammed" Vintage Latino Cal-Style VW's. I really enjoy hearing the many stories of peeps from back in the day LA telling me that my rides are what inspired them to get into this great VDub hobby of ours.

Speaking of projects, I loved the Danny A. logo'd Vdubs from the scene this thread is about, so I decided to build new ones for this millennium.

"Necessary Roughness" has been out and about terrorizing the streets of Az and Cali on a regular basis. It's sister car "Necessary Evil" is currently under construction.

(Both logos are Danny A. designs)
