HOLY TOLEDO Clark! That looks AMAZING for only $600 bones! I can't wait to see it in person. I bet you are super excited to have it back. More pics please! |
And ask and ye shall recieve
Front end sits a bit lower now that I've put about 60 pounds of tools and spare parts up there, mostly to keep the shimmy from being as bad. Car feels much more stable though.
Grr...dirty engine. They say keep harsh chemicals off the paint for at least a month to let it cure, and I don't want to get any of my engine cleaners on the paint, so I'm waiting to clean it up.

Any updates man?
I'm in Kentucky, too. Also, I have a 72 Super in Kasan Red. Its obviously too cold to be doing body work, so I'm waiting for the spring, but yours looks great after the paint job. _________________ 1972 Super Beetle

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner, I've been busy with college application and scholarship stuff lately Awesome, another Kentucky ACVW person! The air-cooled community isn't really big here. No real updates, I haven't driven the car a lot this winter...trying to keep the rust from getting much worse. I'll be driving it a lot more this spring and summer though! As of now (knock on wood) nothing needs my immediate attention, but when spring comes 'round I'll be doing a tune-up on it. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to some shows this year!
And I would change the name of this topic, but I can't haha. _________________ My '72 Super |

Figured I'd update this...taking the Beetle on it's first cruise with the Louisville VW club this weekend! (Provided this sinus infection doesn't just go ahead and kill me first.) Hopefully all will go well, I've been putting more miles on this car than I have in the past and everything still seems to be doing great! Next task will be rebuilding the carb this summer and the CV joints.
Once again I find myself wishing I could weld, there's a few places in the wheel wells that I would really like to patch up.
Also, any way I could get the title of this thread changed? _________________ My '72 Super |

Welding is not hard at all. You can get a welder for about 100 bucks at Harbour Freight. It is a gasless mig welder. That's about all you need for the thin sheet metal on a bug. I learned to weld with gas and was skeptical about a 90amp welder without gas, but a friend has one and it works great. You'll use it for all kinds of things, not just the bug.
BTW, your bug looks great. I have owned my 73 super since I was 17 and I am 34 now. It took me alot longer to finish mine, but I got happy with a welder.
I applaud your work. You have proven that the younger generations are still willing to work hard. Most kids your age dont give a crap about cars. Everything has become so disposable.
Give yourself a pat on the back. |

Hey Clark...looks like the rain chances are less and less as the cruise gets closer. I hope I remember to bring my camera. Should be a great turnout! _________________ 1971 Doublecab - Bertha

Well...it rained the whole time But I still had a lot of fun, so did my friend who I brought along. The car did great, I just wish my fuel gauge was accurate so I could figure out gas mileage. I ran a container of Techron through the gas on the trip as well and the car seemed to run better when I got home...it definitely seemed to start easier at any rate. But I need to re-bleed the brakes...sometimes I had a firm pedal and other times it would sink down pretty far so there's air in the system somewhere. I'm thinking new soft lines while I'm at it.
I didn't get any pictures but my friend did, I'll try to get them up when I see her next.
Actually I did get one photo, just after the car rolled over 205,000 miles.
