I too remember your truck and your dad form the 2012 Invasion. your truck is looking awesome I love the color combo. My square you made me for the 2012 invasion is also in my display case at home. are you planning on making any more VW related art work? Still need a notch to put next to my square in my display case. it would be nice to have a matching set by the same artist. |
Here's a couple of the latest creations of VW - Type 3 -related art....
Both should have prints available this summer...planning on a give away

Can you give us more info on the paint you used .
I have been using Rustoleum spray cans and would like to find something better . I have an OLD Binks spray gun . the last time I used it was 16 years ago with lacquer paint .
Is this product thinned and sprayed ?
Is it color mixed ?
Where did you get it ? _________________ 63 two fold rag

I recycle old cars and parts, other than when I rot, that's as Green as I am going to get.
Thanks to my Tesla driving neighbors, I feel more relaxed driving my SUBURBAN and old VW's.

Thanks--- it sometimes feels odd when I upload images to the "Squareback" category in the Gallery It feels like a squareback when driven--- as long as you don't peek over your shoulder or the rear view mirror
The paint is just rattle can Rust-o-leum BUT it is the specific Automotive formula...Automotive Acrylic Enamel. The hardener and gloss effects are better/more pronounced than the regular Gloss Black. Check their website and it seems that have several colors other than Black After painting an entire vehicle with the stuff, I am confident that pro-like results are possible with time and patience: My procedure was thorough and I spent many hours on it BUT I did NOT go all-out on the prep process--- I just don't have the time and patience
Even so, I think I achieved a level appropriate for the age-history-overall condition of the vehicle. I have about $300 (?) in this paint job (Black top coat, Primer Sealer, Primer Filler, Primer, Self-Etching Primer, Lots and Lots of sand-paper, 4.5" sanding pads for the random orbital sander, tape, polish, wax, applicators, etc.)
IF I wanted/could afford "more" you have to consider "how far?" New bumpers? New side trim? Headlight rings, Door Handles, New seals for signals, doors ? Bed-liner? That's just body/cosmetic stuff... Bill starts to stretch into the 4 figure area!
Then there's the front beam issues I'm having... air leaks in the carbs....crappy exhaust (love those Vintage Speed stainless units!)...All new engine would be nice
You all know what I'm getting at! It's always something! That said my "makeover" that started in October is about there... I made a wish list then and slowly chipped away at it and I'm about there (again).
It is a fun obsession though _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

Thanks Nate!
I will almost certainly be at the Classic/Shoreline Show - it's my favorite!
Yesterday I was at a small local all-makes show. It was pretty fun and within walking (or Schwinn) distance of my house.
Not many VWs... I have more pictures but they are all on my film camera...
That's my Black-Out Schwinn Cruiser SSX (Limited Select Series from about 2007--love that bike!).
Won first place! People enjoyed looking at the truck--- it confused a lot of folks
Category is odd --60-79 ? Hmmm... the show was mostly about modern Mopar Muscle (see the orange car as an example). _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

I've been wanting to make a change with the muffler/exhaust for a while and now that the rear apron and body work is done, it was time.
The old "Thunderbird" exhaust was sounding rattly and would sometime pop on downshiftign--- plus I don't like the way most of these extractors exit the passenger side and my was sitting very close to the fender and fouling the bumper.
So, I had my local guys come up with a custom muffler-- left the actual exhaust/extractors alone. Yes - it's sitting just a bit lower but I really like the performance, sound, and quality of work.

I'm all about madrona trees lately Love those orange-y trunks...
Got the truck pretty well dialed in again--- the interior sports a shifter extender to compensate for the new seats (they are just a bit higher). New exhaust is working well AND the front end is not pulling to the right anymore.
With help, I had the new bearings installed and new calipers and rotors-- the old ones were BAD The beam itself is OK _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia |

Happy 4th
My daughter and I went for a hike today to a special spot in my county.
A little known waterfall that required some special research and careful navigation.
The truck got us fairly close on the logging roads until we came to a locked gate and had to walk.
