|
|
The pics below are of one of my set of 4 Riviera wheels. I 'd like to use on my stock 70 Ghia. But this seems to measure 16 inches total diameter and is approx 5.75 inches wide from outermost rim edge to rim edge...( sorry about the lousy pic). I read the Riviera threads and saw the link to the 1970 Formula Vee accessory brochure, that is exactly the wheel I want. Its hard t tell by comparing that brochure pic, but can anyone advise me if the one I have, is that same rim? Am I measuring wrong?if the pictured one is not the Formula Vee Riviera, then does anyone have a guess as to wht these are from/for?
As to polishing it, ( which I will do if its the right rim), does just the outer lip get a high-shine polish or does th ewhole rim- spokes, center etc, get the high polish? Thanks for any help.

My last og set had polished lips and centers - just the round part of the centers. The spokes were a rough cast finish. |

They look old, but I thought the real ones were "Fat Lip" Rivs... I could be wrong.

My friend Brett (metalchomper) has those same wheels. The Formula Vee part, I'm not sure. He just calls them "original Rivieras". He has been around VW for 25 or more years, he may have some info _________________ Greg

I had my set 20 years ago. They were nothing like the Eagle Rivieras, and they had the narrow lip.
Here's an original FV beetle:

Okay then. It appears, to me, that bill iler has genuine FV Rivieras. And that a polished lip and center are correct. _________________ Greg

Here's mine, I bought them at a swap meet around 1989. I just got done polishing the one on the left compared to the one on the right which has been out in the weather for about a year since the last time it was polished.
The center cap's I got off email about 1 year ago, they are billet aluminum that has been polished. I have no idea what they used for center caps in the 70's.
Anyone have a close up pic of the wheels from the picture above? _________________ ____________________________________________________

I've got a set on my Super Beetle currently in "raw" finish. There was a set with tires at Farmington this weekend for $500. I'm working on a modification that will totally change the look. _________________ Brett
