Maybe you can count the cars made as a split....month by month.
recalculate pro month how many splits are made and you have an estimate how many cars they made with the oval dash before they changed to complete ovals..It is that simple
Oh what the heck....you have one and I not...
congrats Guido. Nice find with those side plates.

Finaly the car is at my place after a long day ,I was leaving this morning at 7.30, and arived back home at 23.15 hr !
We Had a nice chat with our friends in Germany, and we went also to the Ercker shop , to check out the work Rainer and Marcus did to the Heb !!
I must say nobody could do better ! Its just perfect !
But If you could see what other cars there where standing in that shop
58 conv, , D&S , 2 Hebmullers next week 3 ! A very nice ISO and they just dilivered a a splitwindow Rolls R.
Pascal If your Heb is ready for a new top, thats the place you have to go for that Job, If these 3 cars are ready they have made 14 or 15 Hebmuller tops !
Best regards,
Guido |

|
|
The best way known to me to figure out the actual number of Zwitter cars built is to compare body numbers from the earliest known car still in existence and the last known. They body number starts around 15-11000. By the end of 1952 body number 11800 was produced. This may explain why the figure 831 circulates as a suggested number. It seems believable to me that that refers to the number of zwitter built in 1952.
Last known Zwitter with a known body number is 15-12829. If you do the math you will end up with some 1829+ built. If actually 831 were built in 52, 1900 cars could be a good guess. It is also clear that Zwitter verts were build for some time beyond the last date for Zwitter sedans. My guess is that the last Zwitter vert may have been produced in the end of March based on known chassi numbers.
1900 Zwitter cars in 5 production months correspond fairly well to the total figures for Karmann vert production during 1952 and 1953
Last known Zwitter has Chassi 1-462508 and body 15-12829. Last Zwitter sedan produced mars 9 1953 had Chassi 1-0428156
The best source would be factory documents but I have not heard of any. If anyone knows better feel free to jump in and elaborate on these figures |

Just a guess here.
I'm looking at sedan and convertible production figures from 1950 through 1954 and the trend seemed to be a 3.3 % average of total production were convertibles.
Edit: So logically, 3.3% of the number of Zwitters produced should be the approximate number of convertibles made. |

With 57928 Zwitter sedans and your estimate of 3.3 % verts the outcome is 1911 verts which is almost to the number the amount that I got from looking at real cars from the beginning and the end ocf Zwitter vert production. |

That is the same as VW.... it is one company now.
And the karmann museum does not exist. Nor do they have records. Wolfsburg is the only source for that...I wish you good luck.
Oh and the oldest known karmann zwitter show bodynr 11012, the youngest is 12829. I think that around 2000 are made. _________________ Zelensis, glassfibre body made in Belgium , disigned and built on a VW platform About 25 body's built.
