It will come off as they have to media blast it, but it will greatly reduce the PITA factor for the people organizing it. |

You need to tap the top edge. Read below.

Usually the top of the face plate gets stuck to the edge of the stainless steel stove top. I've resorted to using liquid wrench or PB blaster to get this to unstick itself. Also with a great deal of care, tapping the top edge of stove face with a rubber mallet might help to free these parts. You run the risk of breaking the stove valve stems if the face breaks loose while using force. |

I gave up on taking the plate out. I just sliced it with a cutting disk and drilled some holes. I could not get long screw behind the drivers seat back in again, or the right hand one (of three) that go under the panel. The right hand side of the panel is pulled out a bit now. You can push it back but it doesn't stay.

as for name on stove and getting your exact stove returned to you, this is my method for IDing each one. Notice small notches filed into tab for unique pattern to be matched to the photo. (all the screw holes are factory)

Hi,
Mine will be in the mail tonight. Does the ugliest stove front win a prize? I will post photos later.
If anything could go wrong with my removal, it did. A valve or the nut was stripped and would only spin in place, so I had to cut it off. Then, a PO had painted it, then black duct taped over it to "beautify it".
It literally took me two and a half hours to get it removed.
I'm also sending the grate between the window and the cabinet unit. I don't care if it's white or brown. It's horrible, too. Just let me know how much it costs.
Also, are these things copper? The "paint job" flaked off in several places and it sure looks like it. Boy, you can tell they were made in the 80s. That would be an expensive part today!

Well we made it. Stoves were delivered to the powder coater this morning. Hats off to everyone for getting their stoves in ontime and for following directions, makes my part easier. No quick turn around, the guy said Monday, so a week here and a few more days at the printer.
If you look at the picture, 4th stove down on the right, I tried some oven cleaner to see what would happen and the brownish color came off but it still does not match the color seen where the LED panel protected the paint. Also the result was a bit blotchy. So maybe with a less powerful cleaner, if your paint is still good and graphics are not scratched, try a strong cleaning since you missed the refurbishing.
Can you find your stove here?

Mine is fourth down on the left side.
(I cheated, the previous owner drilled holes in it.)
Thanks for putting this together. |

Does the ugliest one get it for free or have to pay extra?

can't wait to see mine come back all nice and freshly grey!
if only i could make the dumb LED panel actually work (always reads green for water no matter the level!) _________________ ----------------------------------------------------

Do you have the water tank where the sensor is in the wall of the tank or attached to the lid of the tank? If it's the one attached to the lid, the sensor is actually a little float that moves up and down the tube with the water level and sometimes it gets stuck. Ours will often stay on red even after filling until we drive around a bit and it pops loose. Maybe yours is stuck at the top. If you have the wall sensor, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe someone else has experience with those. _________________ Dale and Colleen

I have the one with the float in the tank.
Even if I move the float manually up/down, while the circuit is hooked up, I don't see the level change. And, it seems loose enough that it'd float up/down with the water level? I have two of the units (bought a replacement, assuming the problem was a bad sensor)... I suppose it is possible the new float/level sensor thing is also broken... but I am thinking I probably now have two working sensors and a faulty LED panel... I'm not savy enough to figure out how to test the LED panel circuit.
Maybe someone out there could spoon feed me how to fool the LED circuit board into displaying different LED lights for different electrical signals or something... I know GoWesty sells an LED rebuild kit... but before I got into that... it'd be nice to prove my LED panel/circuit actually is the problem?
Maybe this is a good thread to start in the forum... I did some searching a while back and didn't come up with anything too useful... _________________ ----------------------------------------------------

That would indeed be worth a different thread, but still...
From the schematic I posted in this thread (linked in the thread Simplified posted), I guess that you could test the panel by placing resistors of different values (say between 100k and 100M) between the green wire and ground. But since you're unlikely to have those handy, the opposite test would be easier - using a multimeter in Ohm mode, with the panel disconnected, measure the resistance that the tank sensor shows when the level varies - it should vary too. Even easier: meet with another owner and temporarily swap his panel with yours...

x2 on the huge "thank you" for organizing this. That ought to be the biggest "panel gathering" ever, since these left the factory. And yes, I know which one's mine, and you know why But... I thought that there were 23 ??? |

Total count is more like 23. I was getting every thing ready to deliver to the powder coater and 2 of the stoves came in ready for printing. I kept them in their boxes to protect them (and I forgot about them at picture time). _________________ 1987 Syncro Westfalia, stock (bought 1994)

The schedule is going slower than I would have liked, but they are moving. I visited the stoves yesterday while they were in the oven.
