Hey guys i just started my first baja bug and would greatly appreciate any tips or tricks. I am starting from the ground up on this one and taking the body off and doing new pans and the whole 9 yards. I know its a 1958 body but thats about all i know about it as of now. The po started turning it into a baja but never finished. I wanna put in a 6 point roll cage, skid plate, upgraded motor etc etc.

Im new to the site, and new to VWs. only german car ive owned was a 944 n/a. I bought this bug last week, and I absolutely love it.

I live near PISMO BEACH and would love to cruise the dunes with anyone else nearby. hit me up! my brother and I and out friends go quite a bit.

1968

1600 DP heads. single 1 barrel.

12v

header.

all wheel disc brakes.

002 trans

Rear IRS.

Cage, front/rear bumper/cage.

bucket seats with 4 points.

aluminum dash and interior panels.

and im sure more. im still going through it and discovering everything. like i said, its my first bug so I dont really know if what im looking at is stock or not.

but been talking to the previous owner. and the owner before that who built it from stock, contacted me through instagram, so ive been learning about the bug from him too.

When i got the bug the drivers sear was held in with 3 weld tacks so I literally ripped the seat out and fabricated a slider that I had from my old 944, and put it on the seat so my girlfriend can drive it.

While doing the seat I used up a roll of some roofing insulation that I had in my garage from an jeep project i did. $40 a roll. and its more than enough to do a whole bug. it helped so much. the bug does not have carpet. it will be even better when I get it.

My main complaint with the car is the wiring. I have worked on cars most my life, but never done any wiring more than air horns, offroad lights and stereos. when i pop the hood and see all the wires it scares me.. haha. but i guess its time to learn. here are some pics.

Doing the seat and sound proofing.
Been over a year since ive welded. the welds will get better as I the build continues. I need to pick it back up. its almost like riding a bike Smile

My photoshop of what is coming up visually. Tint and gonna trim and paint the fenders black. I dont like how the front fenders were cut through the headlight hole.

A work in progress. Maybe this post needs to be moved to a build Thread? if so sorry. - Conrad

Now that you've showed it off, next step is to start a build thread.

I've owned the car for 2 years, bought it in Denver at the Bug in. I bought it as is, I'm guessing the paint was about a year old when I got it. Guy put the car together for his daughter but she didn't want it and he had to sell it due to a divorce. Yep its from Hastings and it sits in front of the Pizza Hut on Burlington ave.

My 1961 Baja Bug on a 1965 pan next to my 1967 Chevy C50 Skwelie. Nothing real fancy. Picked it up this summer from a friend. Converted it to 12volrs, swapped out the 1200cc for a 1968 1500cc. I have a new front bumper, nerf bars, and a whole bunch if other misc. parts waiting to get put into it this spring.

1966 with a 1776. Very solid, but needs some work and a muffler so my neighbors don't murder me.

My first Baja. Found it for sale here on the Samba, but ended up bidding and winning it off of Ebay. Just added PRT wheels and BFG tires last week.
