Thanks! Very Happy

Today I tried to wax the bug a bit but it wasn't working out. So I found some linseed oil and went to town!

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. The oil gives it a nice depth and hopefully protects the rusty areas a bit. It dries nice and hard-not sticky.

I bought a different kind of oil - Lucas Oil Stabilizer - to add to the transaxle. I'm hoping it will quiet down a bit of gear whine and provide some extra protection to the diff and wheel bearings.
Next stop Eureka Springs!

Looks really good. I've had good luck with the product "woody wax", (I got
it at west marine) and worked really good and lasted a bit longer than
the linseed oil.

Thanks!
I'd like to try woody wax or waxoyl, but you just can't find it in the middle of MO.

Your bug is looking cooler every time! Have a ? about the Linseed Oil,,, i live in the desert and the dust sucks at times! Is the Linseed a dust magnet or does it dry? Never used it.. Same for Woody Way! Thanks!

Oops, didn't look at your location...I would imagine it would be tuff to find out there.

A friend of mine used linseed oil on his rusty SC and he just sprayed it on with a pump sprayer! It was a heavy coat so it stayed sticky for a long time. Also smelled great! As I recall, it was still easy to rinse dust and dirt off.
On mine, I wiped it on with a rag and rubbed it in. It seems to have dried pretty well and is not tacky. It rained today and water beaded up nicely.
I think it would work in dusty areas but I'd try a little section first to see how it does.
Not sure how long it will keep...I'll report back on that.

Just outside of Eureka Springs, AR. Bug ran great the whole way. She's a highway cruiser for sure.

Thanks for the pics tEd! Another successful drivin' season for the turd-kis bug. Still running strong! After a few years of driving, I'm not seeing any real tire wear or transaxle problems.

Thanks! The linseed oil dries and is not sticky to the touch after a few hours, unless you just dump it on. Smells nice, too! Very Happy I use a cloth and rub it in.
My first application lasted about a month, I haven't re-applied it yet.
Nice job on the "macarena" bus!

Nice looking vehicle, Cully. Sits just right.

I'm sold: I'm a-swabbing the Bus down with linseed oil- got a little over two gallons out to the shed- for some of that lo-sheen action and rust inhibit-osity.
