Which one is Canadian? The VW circle over the Volkswagen word?

Then there's the rare "Big 1500" script found only on 1961- 1962 Type 3s. This one belongs to gizmobob:

Then, there's the simple "underlined" Volkswagen that appears on all U.S. Spec Squarebacks from August 1965 thru July 1969.

On Euro models, these cars said "Variant" under the Volkswagen, but Chrysler Corp sued to keep VW from using that name in USA, as it was too similar to "Valiant". So, U.S. models got the "slash" to fill the holes for the "Variant" badge.

Good one. The "E" in this case stands for "Economy", which meant that you got the gas- sipping low compression, single- sidedraft 1500 "Normal" engine in a Type 3 with all of the 1500 "Super" bling.

We gots to remember we aren't in the Type 3 forums anymore.

I guess it's true that the thread has gotten a little Type 3-heavy. Still, the 1500E is a favorite of mine mainly for its WTF? factor.

Yes. It's strange, for some reason VW designated the fastback as their "touring" (T) model, whereas on most other German cars (such as Mercedes and BMW) the "T" indicates what we Americans call a "station wagon". "Variant" is another designation for an "estate" or "Station Wagon" type car.

It's always amusing to see "restored" Notchbacks badged as "Variants"

I have a VW1600TL badge and also a VW411E baege, and was thinking of grafting them together to make a VW1600TLE badge if I could do it well. That's what 99% of the late US fasties are, even though none seem to be badged that way. I take it you had to buy an EFI fasty in Europe to get that badge?

apologies if I'm being thick in the head, but you really wouldn't see this any day, since no T34 was ever offered with fuel injection... right?

is this a real badge but moved to a different car?

Yes, you are. Type 3 single carb engines are side- drafts.
