And of the rockers and bottom of A-pillar... do I see rust there? Can't quite tell. |

Agree except for:
If the bumpers are real overriders bumpers it's not.
They probably aren't though. |
If they were available solo, sure...but no chance in hell I'd pay $13,500 for a car just for the bumpers. Any car that's been 'put back together' has a pretty good chance of mediocre assembly - especially when all of the photos are taken from 20+ feet away. That goes double for engines with duct tape on the breather and braided vinyl hose laying across the top of the engine. |

Funny you say that as I know a few people that have bought cars just to get rare parts from them.
Of course the prices were reasonable in the first place so they could end up selling the car and getting the parts for free or dirt cheap. _________________ How to Post Photos

I've done that a couple of times. Even at $8500 it'd be hard to do on this car.
On a slightly different topic, way back in the day, I bought a 65 Type 1 for $600 when my Type 3 was at the body shop. The guy I bought it from couldn't get it to run. I paid for it, swapped the carb and distributor and drove it home. A couple of months later, I sold it for $1200 when my car was done. |

WTF???

Even with a zero removed this would be a hard sell. First, I doubt it's a '62. Second, you can already see that all the early stuff is gone... _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Huh? I'm looking at my own '63 and barely anything is chrome inside.
What did he re-chrome?
Glove box push button?
Window cranks?
Door pull surrounds?
Fresh air knob trim? _________________ How to Post Photos

I do agree that a solid starting point is important but this price isn't in any way realistic.

I thought the $20k Fastback he's trying to sell was pretty awesome too. |

That would be a rare one as there is no such thing as a $20k fasty let alone a pig nose automatic.. The guy is out there for sure _________________ To his their own PBJ

If it's really a 63, why does it have a "S" plate light cover?
Since it's partly stripped, it's hard to tell if this is another one of those "incorrectly titled" cars. It was from California "10 years ago" afterall.
Not sure I car for the vinyl and tweed colors and layout of the seat covers either. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

You mean this pile of WTF???
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1949959
This is a VERY early 1970 fastback made in 6/69. Has a 69 truck space and not your typically 70 very rare!!!
Yeah- So rare it's impossible. And... WTF is this "has 69 truck space" crap?
Restoration: Three coats of paint and 4 coats of clear.
Ah, no. That would be a "custom". So would the incorrect dash pad, lowback seats, crappy aftermarket bumpers, aftermarket dual carbs, exhaust, lack of trim on the rear side windows...
$20K is laughable. But wait, there's more... "Everything works" but...
Everything works expect for gas gauge. I've tried everything to fix it and it just won't work. Horn worked when first done but doesn't now. Generator light stays on when driving but shuts off with car. Everything tests ok on it and battery charges fine... Needs a new regulator to shut that light off!
$20K and you can't be bothered to fix this chickenshit? If you know it needs a regulator... replace the damn regulator. Jeebus.
Has won first in has class in almost all shows its been shown in.
Uh... OK.
This is a beautiful car and was in HOT VWs a few years back
Where? In the "for sale" section?

Yes, but it looks well done and intriguing (except for the too orange interior!) _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

^^^^^^
If he's so proud of it why doesn't he show some pics with the top up and the windows rolled up? He would have to have roll-up rear side windows and those would be something that would require some major planning and execution. Also, is there a glass rear window incorporated into the top like the Beetle convertible has? |

Second pic in the ad. It does appear to show rear roll up side windows. Actually, you can see the rear window crank on the driver's side in the interior shot as well as the rear window scrapers. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.
