Too bad they messed up when reassembling the car and put the steering wheel on the wrong side
Actually this car inspired me many years ago when I saw it at a show - I think in Las Vegas. Even more beautiful in person. _________________ Rick Christensen

right? especially since the $100 re-pop is just fine after a little work (3 holes need to be filed larger, some filing work on the horn wire post)

It was at $20,400 with 4 days to go and looks like it was ended. That is a "celebrity" owned car so the value is not really relevant although I think that car was 30k + when Jesse bought it.
Send your panel to Europe, they pay stupid prices for type 3's.. No offense to any Europeans but the market there is completely different. _________________ To his their own PBJ

Anybody else notice the 3 bolt hinge doors? Price is a little high but a car with a complete original pigalle interior and AC are hard to come by. |
Cool car for sure...but definitely over priced
If I'm not mistaken all Pigalle and Teak cars are Aug/Sep/ ish of 65 cars so I think there all three bolt cars |
Pigalle, Teak, and maybe Azure were August- December 1965 built, except in the Type 34 line they were built for all of the 1966 model year.
Very few 3 bolt 1966 Squarebacks exist, but they do exist- mostly as very early build cars. |
The 3 bolt hinges changed to 2 bolt hinges in Mid March of 1966, IIRC...meaning that all of the Pigalle, Teak cars would be 3 bolt hinges. |
Did early Fastbacks get 3 bolt hinges? I thought not. |
I never think about the Fastback...it's a parts car to me. |
See how you are? Bad attitude. |
Meh.
VW did weird shit with these cars. The Variant switched over to two bolt hinges mid year, the Fastback, AFAIK, always had two bolt hinges and the Notchback never changed to two bolt hinges.
Don't even get me started on the two different versions of three bolt hinges...
Talk to me about VW logic again? |
Did anyone checked it in person? Or is close to the seller/car? It dooes'nt look that bad to me. Checked pictures the seller sent to me. But need to be sure, because i'm too far away |

He sent me a bunch of pictures of rust. It's bad enough that I wouldn't touch it near that price. It's a shame, because It's pigalle and also air conditioning, which would be awesome to have in TX. It's just over 8 hours from me, but the pictures tell me enough. Sad because I'd really like a Pigalle squareback _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Both front fenders rusted under the headlights and lower corners. driver door has rust bubbles starting. Passenger rocker needs replaced, it has a huge hole, and the pans need done _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Thanks, i think we've seen the same pictures - lol
Fenders and doors (pan halves also) doenst matter to me - i have plenty of them. I also have a much better and a good pigalle dash in stock.
Replacing fender's is'nt much work... changing the panhalves and the rocker is a pain in the a**
To get it overseas it's 10K $ - not a bargain!
But to have a pigalle squarback tease me.... |

I have always thought these cars would go way up in value.. That being said I don't think this price is realistic at all.. It was however purchased from

The ad says the engine is original...The car was built October 1962 but the engine is definitely NOT original based on the number in the photo - T engines didn't start until, what? 1966 model year?
That alone would make me question every other claim being made about the car.
$30k is a pipe dream, IMO.
A $30k car shouldn't be missing seals or have that many rust issues to address - no matter how 'minor' the seller claims they are...one thing any Type 3 owner knows: The rust you see is 10% of the real story most of the time because these cars hide rust very well to the untrained eye. |

Right about the engine- it's an August 1965 1600. The original engine in a '63 would have been a single side draft anyways. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

He mentions that the single carb was replaced in the ad..
It sounds like the buyer bought the car as a flip thinking there was money there. I don't see it, maybe 10-12k although I don't think it will
Be long before a nicely restored example tops the 40k mark but this one is way off that mark. _________________ To his their own PBJ
