I bought an original folding shifter at the Michigan Buggy Builders swap meet for $.50 this year !

Can anyone ID this shifter? It's for a beetle, it's a straight shaft, and the shifter folds using a steel cable under spring tension. The top piece lifts out of the base piece--there's no hinge. It's an elegant design, but I'm wondering who made it.

Thats a Dehne folding shifter, the rarest of all shifters

I can't see why you would need a folding gearstick in a bus, any ideas? even if you get the gearstick out of the way you still have a big steering wheel hanging about, if you want to get amorous just go in the back.


i think were made for early commercial walk thrus so the driver could access the rear easily.

i picked up one for my single

Hi.. I know the post was many years ago.. Yes it is an original period accessory.. I removed that folding gearshift from a 1954 Oval beetle... Just recently found another and the guy I got it from has another... I think it was made by Volmac[[/img]
