No, I thought the engine had freed up. Pulling that won't do anything if it's good or bad. You mentioned going to Steve's so I thought it was running but poorly.

I finally got it running but I'm pretty sure I'm down a cylinder...I'm gonna do a compression test tonight and maybe do a leak-down test too
Worse comes to worse I buy a decent used 1600 and throw it in the bug. Plus I can get a roller and throw in a motor

I keep posting and I'll be it's getting annoying...but I think I found the problem. I drained the oil and guess what came out? Certainly not oil...
I guess the carb leaks gas so my case was full of fuel and oil. Next step would be a rebuild of the carb and possibly the motor? Or can I just use a cleaner like SeaFoam or somethin?

This is the point I was trying to make. The fuel solenoid shut off valve is not working properly. It is intended to stop fuel flow when the ignition is off. Change the valve as it's the least expensive fix at this point. You will need a rebuild at some point with that 90 psi number. Fix the valve and roll it for now, and start saving for a good rebuild.

As of today:
New plugs (gapped at .024)
Older Bosch plug wires (the Brazillian ones fell apart)
Compression still at 90psi in #1; all others at 125psi
Drained gas from sump and put in new oil
Valves (gapped at .006)
Pulled out fuel cut-off solenoid. The plunger seemed kind of loose :\
Checked float, float tank full of fuel

Car does not start without holding the gas pedal down a little. Also backfires and makes what sounds like a knocking noise. All at low idle.
If I bring up the rpm's, it all goes away but it still sounds like it's struggling to run.

Eventually I'll rebuild the carb, and if necessary, buy another 1600 and rebuild the one in the bug now.

Did you put it back in, or replace it with a new one?

I put it back in after I tested it and it opens and closes correctly. I'll probably replace it but for now it works.
Also, I adjusted the timing and now it idles...rough, but ut idles. Only time it's really bad is when I give it gas. The motor shakes real bad then it evens out. Pulled plus one and two and there was no change, but three and four made the engine slowly die. I'm wondering if it's a bad seal or something and that's causing one and two to not have enough combustion. The car moves under it's own power, but it's a hell of a lot slower than it should be

How are the intake boots? Did you spray any carb cleaner or starting fluid on them? If they are bad, and you spray them the idle will change.

They seem fine. I sprayed carb cleaner on them and there was no change

Now she purrs like a kitten....a dirty, oily, loud, kitten lol
Still leaks fuel I believe, so I'm gonna get a fuel shut-off solenoid today from McNab and see how that turns out. Otherwise I'll rebuild the carb

I'll be chillin' at home. Bus is in Miami getting welded on. Pick it up on Sat. Won't be driving for a while. Doing a refresh. Pushrod tubes, solid rockers, possible valve replacement and maybe some other shit.
