This very rare bus just turned up in South Africa. Here's a chance for all the M-code geeks to decipher and discuss what we see here:

You got everything except that it's also a Microbus. Roof bunks must refer to the fact that it also has a Dormobile roof! I wonder how many of this configuration there are out there.
The bus is quite rusty and is missing all the loose fancy bits like toilet bucket and hanging light, but all the cabinets are there and it still has very rough original paint.
The new owner knows what he has and hopefully he will be able to give it the restoration it deserves. _________________ fig

Doormobile roof is just about the best thing that can happen to a camper! congrats. Oh, don't try to actually get in the bunk beds! they are NOT for adults. they are for storing suff while you are camping. _________________ regards

I guess that's the case for very big volks. The Dormobile roof bunks are not early bay westy bunks. They are 6ft long and wider. While they are best for kids, an adult can sleep comfortably in them. I'm 6ft and I've slept soundly in the roof bunks of my 63 Martin Walter Dormobile, as has a friend of mine who is taller than me. But the regular occupants of those 2 bunks were my daughters.
When it's just my wife and I in the Dormo, we open one of the bunks for storage. With both bunks unfolded there's not a lot of space between them. _________________ fig

you are a braver man than i was. while i could get into the beds in my dormy, it felt more like being on a park bench, not comfy in any way, and i was only 145 pounds back then. and, yes, my beds were like never used when i got it. _________________ regards

Hallo,
My M-code plate is missing but i just recived the birth certificate that i ordered.
Everything is quite clear on it exept for 2 codes.
First: 043 wich is according to the list here on the forum
Preparation for swiss license requirements.
Anybody who can tell me whatb this just means.
And i seems strange as the van was delivered new in los angles.
The second one is: 733 on the forum here it says it has been seen on a '65 panel deliverd to germany.
Mine is a '65 panel as well but deliverd to the USA.
Could it be that destination changed after it was done?

After nine months and several emails I finally received my Kombi's birth certificate. Pretty cool! My bus was built a few days from my birthday (day and month, not year). I kind of expected that but was hoping that is ended up on my actual birth day.
Couple things.
1) M 018 - Hazard light installation code? Are these flashers????
2) M 086 and M 145 code ideas?
3) Are most of these codes fairly standard for an early Kombi?
Posted on my build thread as well. _________________ 69 Sunroof Deluxe - Montana Red/Cloud White (Sold)
