I searched and can't find an answer. Can someone decipher the meaning of KD as shown on this M Code Plate. My first thought was Canada , but no KD code listed for Canada .
Beings this Bus is an 8/63 build it has no day/month stamped.
231 Lhd cargo doors right 2 in reference to paint type.
4949 Primer / 83 mesh grey interior. And the 77 ( hand stamped) also shows up as primer code ?
Does KD mean Complete Knock Down ?

Thanks for any info.

I have seen a few oddball M-code plates, but WOW this one is the wierdest yet.
was this once an NOS body? that is all I can come up with.
KD is seen stamped onto early factory rebuilt engines, etc. perhaps KundenDeinst or something like that.

That is a very unusual M-code plate! Thanks for sharing.

Just wondering why do you say the bus is 8/63? Pics?

Neat. Low compression, Mountain gears, Heavy Duty shocks. 3 I've never seen in person, kinda makes sense to all be together for a rugged environment though

I saved a couple pics for the thread

M-code plate:
04 8
175 181 240
364 013 056 092 106 156
KJ 2312 414183 7005666

Some of the interesting codes:
240 - Engine with dished pistons (low compression) for low octane fuel - Engine Code 'L'
056 - Steering/ignition lock
092 - Lower gearing for mountain travel
106 - Heavy duty shock absorbers

KJ = Canary Islands

Ad says 1966 but you can see by the VIN # it's one of the first '67s.

I found a bus today. it's definitely a 59 so-23 westy. The m code plate is strange with no westfalia designations and no wesy paint code. it reads like this
30-09-9
372 139 156
231 L Grau
474186

I know it's a may of 59 production. Definitely an uncommon color for a so-23. Pretty simple code for a so-23 though. Any thoughts on what this is. Didn't even know they made westy's in light gray

if it has no destination code then it could be a german delivery bus that was taken to westfalia for the conversion later?

does it have the hand painted westfalia tan paint in the back?
