Anyone got a pic of a barndoor Starter Button?
Pulled mine out to fit at the weekend, and the hole in the dash pod is too big for the button I have.. _________________ 56 RHD UK Oval

Thats the starter button I have ... but the hole is probably 1/4" bigger in diameter.
The hole would more suit something like this...
BUt were these used on Barndoors? _________________ 56 RHD UK Oval

Hi Everett and Julian ... let's put '53 transporters on the list for the larger bakelite starter buttons also. _________________ Rick Clark in Monterey County, CA USA

That's how TL lists them, but the 4/53 T24 and 6/53 T26 in the shop had / have original pods with factory drilled holes and the larger plastic starter buttons. More differences, as usual. _________________ Rick Clark in Monterey County, CA USA

How strange!
We have 20-048669 here which is 3/53 and it has the aluminium button.
I also just spoke to my buddy Merrill who had 20-046776, early 3/53, and that also had an aluminium button! |

The small hole is the important issue here but that looks like it might be a Zwitter starter button. If it has a nut on the back, it is.
The Barndoor ones screw on from the outside like a later Bus domelight pod switch. _________________ How to Post Photos

my 04/53 Standard's starter button is exactly like Negro-sourous-Rex's bus! Same thing! It appears to be sunken in? Though I haven't really had a good look at it? And who cares! It works! |

My December '53 Panel has the same type of aluminum button pictured at the top of this thread. I also got some parts from a '53 Deluxe that was parted out in Germany many years ago and it had a aluminum button as well, not sure what month of production it was. _________________ Please check us out on Instagram at @holygrailgarage

The one I have is from a zwitter then, as its threaded on the backside.. for a large nut.. Maybe the hole is the right size...
What side would the starter button be on a RHD bus..
My 'larger' hole in my dash pod is on the RHS of the pod.. were they handed between LHD and RHD.. in other words always the side closest to the door...?? _________________ 56 RHD UK Oval

Hi,
Yep they were handed the hole is still on the door side i believe. I spose there is a small chance the pod has been changed for an early rhd pod if it has a large hole.
If you want a pic of a rhd pod, find a musclebus post on the ssvc, and follow the link at the bottom to the rhd one he has for sale and on the first page is a very good pic of a 54 rhd pod. Sorry not my pic to post.
Cheers

This is the size hole and the 2 cut outs at the side of the hole if it was the larger bakerlite switch but would be unlikely at a guess on a 54.
The thing on the otherside (through the hole) is the power accessory point, which i dont know if they had them on 54's but i would imagine so and would account for another hole, but would probably be this side if its rhd.
hope this helps |
