Sure does! Though now it kind of bothers me seeing it so full of stuff...
That is the plan for January, as have class work due early January.

I went through this thread, and what a mess! There is like six pages of conflict... All I can seem to tell and remember was there was something wrong with the fuel pump and was supposed to send off to Adney. So, think the latter is the next step which I will see about doing not this weekend, but the following as finals start Monday and haven't studied.  Trying to get done what is due this week.
If that doesn't pan out, the pump Russ used on his Fastback was used in many Fords through the 1990's. I could print the list and go down to the yard and see about finding a unit. Though, time is money and a new one mean with my luck it work better than used... Thus another reason to wait until after Christmas.

Miss Mercedes really needs to go down for a nap and get a good bit of work done. Our warmer and dry weather has caused rubber suspension parts to fail. Also, something is causing significant brake steer. So, try and think of things that need to get back on the road that can don't require parts. That was the hood latching... Well, now latched and secured, but with the headlight inside...
Got an idea for later: can the receiver be bolted in with 5 or 6mm bolts and nuts? I got a nice, rust free, latch somewhere in all the boxes of stuff.
Eventually, the front apron should be pulled out. Even with the latch adjusted all the way back, still not sitting aligned. However, can this cause the latch not to release when pulling with both hands, leaning back as hard as possible?
Also, anyone made new rubber washers for the fenders? Did find the Mercedes fender washers work, but got a whole lot of other hardware to find/replace. But, figure not good manners to drop your fender on the road while driving. ;P
Calling in the morning and see if the local German F.L.A.P.S. is open. If so, can get fuses and a fuel filter ordered and filled for Mittwoch. Got a lot of electrical to sort, but I took Bob's suggestion and been using 16' leads with alligators. But, no progress there either since not getting power to the box and now my meter seems to be going on the fritz. Worst case, got a Harbor Freight.
Does anyone have hardware, including the rubber bits, to mount the front beam?
Oh, and if anyone is wondering, I do work part time. However, by thee or four, I am done for the day. But, how am I to get to work a 45 minutes away, no bus service, without a vehicle? So, got to get the Squareback on the road A.S.A.P.. The two things for tomorrow is get the hood open and organize the garage so have tools to work on the Squareback.

Thank you so much for this information. Sure have expanded their inventory, however, prices still high. But then, who has brand new rubber mounts? Only issue is the bolts are not listed on the site, but if still holding onto hardware from parted out type 3s, they have it, just would have to call.

Good to see you back in the Squareback saddle. I'm over in Ohio now, helping out with my dad... back in Or. on Weds. Email me with a list of what you need after Weds and I will do some digging.
I actually got the Peru Green 69 delivered to my place about two weeks ago after having owned it for a couple years. Getting it in line behind a Type 34.
This is an identical car to my college car of *gulp* 39 years ago so I am looking forward to it.

Yes, need to keep after it. Since Sprout's royally messed up, got all this week except Saturday morning. This morning's gut issues making things go slower. I hate having my schedual redone, especially waking up at 5:30 (I like to sleep in until 7). I put in my order for 100 each of 8, 16, and 25 amp fuses, so that should do for a little while. 
I thought you were going to be in Ohio longer? Okay, will send that list again, plus your to-do list. ;P
Where has it been for two years?
That is why I am refusing to listen and sell the Squareback. I would never get it back and regret it all my life. My great uncle did with his fifties Dodge pickup and remember him mentioning it at least once.
My Dad is class of '64, so, to me you can't be old. Seriously, I was thinking about time also, as this June will be 10 years out of High School and still haven't got a Master's degree or a long term employment in the field.

Actually, I don't need the frame horn rubber. Just the uppers that go between the body and the beam.
Hey, anyone have the flat glass window trim? Pretty sure have the hatch glass trim. Mine went missing and can't seem to track down. Be so greatly appreciated.

This morning got the rest of the tools cleaned, polished, and put away (might be a little anal, but actually safer). Still missing some screwdrivers. Some how end up loosing one now and then. Also missing a couple sockets, but think only one is recent.
Bob jogged a memory of a jar full of hardware. Tried to find, but all that effort climbing onto the roof of the Mercedes was worth it. Interesting how much I forgot. I found:
A lot of spare fender hardware, most likely a full set
One of the steel sleeves for the front end (odd that it's by itself)
Whole lot of hardware in couple other containers that completely clueless where it goes
An early fuel gauge
A spare key for the Squareback
A rusted key from possibly another that I parted out
A special stone that been wondering what happened to since just after High School (received it in High School jewelry class)
A house key that clueless which house or appartment
A 1979 Susan B. Anthony in good nick
And a 1976 quarter in good nick
Find the last four really odd. Guess some benefit of losing all your memory after a concussion.

Found the jar, but only contained two sleeves, not any other pieces.  I do remember it was super hectic right at that point, so most likely got tossed in something and with all the moves, having my doubts having gone though it all now.
Did find not one, but two black coils. I remember one was a gift from Russ, but not sure which or why I have two. Also, one is a 113 part and the other 311 (remember this was discussed in the past, but beyond that...).
Also found three small screwdrivers. Don't understand why were in with the hardware.
In the process, redid the travel spares box to also include the dwell meter Russ sold me and a timing light. Also put in the drive gear puller as figure best place. I may not be driving or towing a type 3 to the Invasion, but still been asked to carry up tools, so why not a small box that may help others? I know how Invasions go and know at least two that are flying in.

Picked up the fuses today that the oder filled yesterday. In nice hard plastic boxes with full lids. Doesn't say where made, but supposed to be Germany. These are brass and the 16 and 25 amp fuses look to be copper. Next week got me down for Wednesday only, so give me a chance to make time to spend with the Squareback.
Also picked up something else along the way... Made such a thud that thought had lost a significant part of the engine. Little bolt smaller than a quarter, solid brass it looks like.

Got a bunch of cores done, burned out, and ended up going back to the hood. Bob was right: thinking is working. Thank you Bob for all the help and getting me to get back again. I sadly forgot how great and sweet Volkswagens smell and breathed deep while was under and in the front trunk area.
Got inside the spare tyre well (nice fit, though with so high up on stands, bit of a long reach) and realized what was catching was not the release, but the pointy end (I refuse to call it what Joe calls it  ) was sitting so the upper flat was caught. Got my flare wrench and loosened the latch enough to get the hood loose.
Turns out the "new" upper latch helps, but the major issue is the apron and the hood positions. I got good and frustrated with fiddling with the hood and latch, so got out the B.F.H. (dead blow from Harbor Freight) and gave the apron a few good whacks. Helped actually.
Then thought some more.  Realized that the hood could go ever so lightly back. With a lot of fiddling, realized again I could take the same hammer and give very, very, light taps and get the gap and height of the rear edge close as possible without scraping the paint or the washer nozzle. But, the latch still needed to be adjusted as not 100 percent right.
Got my white grease pencil (if any one knows what those are ) and put on a good layer. I then set the latch all the way back and checked. Perfect! 
Now the issue is the pointy thing not fully getting engaged unless press hard. I tried unscrewing, but was too tight. Am I right that it is the pointy thing? If so, any tricks on getting it loose?
Oh, and no pictures as the humidity is terrible and didn't want y'all to smell me, so by the time showered and caloried, got dark.

There should be a jamb nut on the latch pin stud. Loosen the jamb nut, and you should be able to lengthen or shorten the pin length.

There should be a jamb nut on the latch pin stud. Loosen the jamb nut, and you should be able to lengthen or shorten the pin length. |
Bob, thank you so very much for pointing out the obvious. Duh!  Should have gotten out the manual, but my brain has been missing the last couple days.
Decided after dinner and work, to not be lazy and get something done. Now finding two other issues. No matter what, the safety catch gets caught on the release cable and/or its housing. The other is the receiving latch is corroded, so good bit of resistance, even after adjusting the pointy part.
Why is the first happening? Didn't happen when new, correct? So, why now?
So, thinking of a way to rid both of these issues: drilling out the rivets, put in a replacement latch, use bolts, and on one put a bracket to keep the cable out of the way. What do y'all think of this?

I don't recall anyone else ever needing to drill out the rivets & replace the latch assembly. I do need to lube mine regularly as they do seem to get sticky. Use your BFH & grease etc to keep your present latch lubed,adjusted & functioning. I dropped off some beam hardware for you at Trams & he's gonna add to your care package after he gets back from his Dad's funeral in Ohio.

However, has anyone had there hood sit proud of the seal so salt water corroded the latch? Just hashing out.
B.T.W., sitting proud is why the hood completely rotted out from the inside out and has been replaced.
Yes, didn't ask since knew Tram was going to Ohio and plan to wait until ready.
