You are more than welcome. You might notice I put a few things away as did not want to run them over and thought you needed the help being so busy.

I did have a lot of trouble, and took from 11:00 until 20:00. But it is done and over with.

First off, I forgot something, and so Dad took me to get it, but had to make a stop. That took a while.

Then we had to get it off the shed foundation, and the rear wheels had sunk into it and the mud. A bit of rummaging and we found a couple pieces of plywood. But, the right tire would not get high enough to be able to get free, so Dad got all the wrenches from his car and put them in the hole first, then plywood, and the jack handle for good measure.

From there it was real simple to get it out of the yard, but then had to get it on the dolly. So we went off to Home Depot for a Come Along, but only had pullers with a 12" reach which was not going to work. So decided to use the Chevy to push it up on the trailer, but that did not work so well.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Most of the damage was to the Chevy, and figure we got lucky the Squareback's damage can be buffed out. I was surprised my Dad was not more upset. Seemed like for once he was glad to have a beater.

Tired and disappointed, we moved it from the alley to the street. Then my Dad decided to ask the neighbor if it was alright, and he had us move it. Somehow it came up that I was trying to get it on the dolly and he said he had done it many times with his low riders with men pushing it up. He called a friend while I brought the trailer around. We all stated pushing the trailer up the ramp, and the trailer popped off the ball! Shocked Apparently the inspector failed to do his job. Did a number on my egg donor's van which upset her and BettyAnn. Made for a not so nice drive to the airport.

Once the trailer was secure, it was no problem with the four of us to push it on the dolly. Almost forgot to check the emergency brake, and in doing so, with being almost too tired to safely drive, locked the key in the car.

Dad wanted to take it to El Cajon, as was past the storage closing time.
Once there, realized what I had done. There was no way to get it off the trailer. Dad had a notion I had given him a spare key and after a short while produced a V.W. key. I let him have the honors of trying it, and sure enough it worked! Very Happy We are not sure why he had it, but sure glad.

Then the trailer decided to put up a fight. One ramp would not clear the floor pan ridge. Then the tie down net/strap would not release. Man, my Dad stated getting frustrated when he realized he was in a fight. I told him they damaged the van, we could just cut the strap and be done. But, his German stubbornness payed off, and finally released after several bangs. Seemed it was strapped way too tight. To solve the ramp issue, I immobilized the Squareback as if I was going to pull the trailer per Big Boy's advice, got in the van, and pulled the trailer until the Squareback was sitting on the wheel retainer. The ramp barely cleared, and then I pulled it all the way off. Thought I had a picture, but seems it did not process.

But, it was not over, as still had to pick up Phoebe from the vet and return the trailer. I sure got some nasty looks and a honk when I drove the trailer into the shopping center at one of the busiest times down the narrow lanes. With the wide trailer I had only inches to spare. Sure helped improve my repertoire of driving skills! Laughing I just used my mirrors to place the trailer wheels as first, but got the knack quickly. I only went over one curb a bit avoiding the honker. Got the dog and headed to drop off the trailer.

Got to the U-Haul location and was too tired to back the trailer in. I have backed trailers up many times and could get it exactly where I wanted it, but never tried up an odd shaped hill. So un-hitched the trailer and pushed it into place.

Picked up flowers for my egg donor and went home. Did not eat lunch until 9:30 at night.

As a side note, BettyAnn did sign the papers finalizing the purchase of the house as it had to be in her name only (which is fine for me at this point) and because she liked the fact it had a large enough garage to have storage and was already built in, was tiled except the bedrooms, and the fancy kitchen.

THE END

Why the end? I still have to send out the pump; install it, get it running; paint the fender(s), install the headlight, turn signal, and antenna; and give her a proper bath. The last is the most challenging as the sun roof drain refuses not to leak. I am thinking of using R.T.V. at the seam between the metal and plastic. Would that work?

Georg, think I agree, but in my case will just sell and get me a Mercedes! Wink I feel so hurt because of the meanness and that a lot of the community is no longer friendly, especially in Sandy Eggo.

But, Gizmo taught me something I will not, and should not, forget. Some people can only handle so much Adriel, some more than others. Gizmo and Georg can take more than Niel, Pedro, and Jack. So in regards to the latter, I have to give them more space and be more careful in the future. He said something that shocked me, I think differently than other people. Once he said it, it made sense, as can explain why people do not understand me: I am more different than I thought. So in regards to Jack, I thought I was spending enough time, and really, he wanted me to say forget the family, and spend all my time on the Squareback. If I had done that, I would have been driving her.

In short, I learned a lot, but might be time to move on. Think once I have a Mercedes will be easier for me.

This will be my last post ever in this thread.....

Adriel you have brought on much of what you have recieved by your neglect to listen to what has been said to you and choosing not to take the advice that you have recieved. I tried hard to help and be a good influence and offer my honest advice to you on VW's and in life, but your personality gets in the way. I think part of the problem is not that you don't comprehend or understand, due to having Aspbergers, but just plain stubberness. You feel that you are smarted than most of use, which you may very well be when it comes to pieces of paper that say so BUT life can teach many things that college cannot. Having had many good influences throught my life from those outside my family have made me who I am today and I am thankful for those people. I grew up under not so great circumstances, like many here, as my Dad is a life long criminal and we were quite poor. I learned how my actions cause good and bad in my life. I decided that I need to change who I was when things didn't go well. I continue to change as I learn what is important in my life and as I get older I find that doing for others makes me happier. Stop questioning what you are told all the time and take time to listen, be humble and realize you have people what care about you greatly. Show them love, respect and gratitude. You will feel yourself changing into the man I know you want to (and can be) someday.

Your Friend Jack

I agree adriel, its hard to say that this isn't one of the nicest communities of enthusiasts around. Just look at this thread, 73 pages of questions and advice, discussion and gernerousity, all for you. Don't take the mean stuff to heart, cause in the end we are all looking out for you.
Also don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

As for the sunroof just wash the car. Put a towel over the sunroof and one in the car if you're worried about liquid in the car, and put it in the sun to dry. Its just water

These tow dollys are the hot setup for towing, but they can cause drama. My Dakota has a big scratch up the tailgate from when my neighbor was 'helping' Ning & I roll an oval window off of his tow dolly. At least now he doesn't charge me $50 to borrow it! Cool

Silicone your sunroof drains & PM me for a sunroof to replace the one that got ran over on the freeway IF you keep it? Twisted Evil

Yes it is, but I still do not know how I brought it on. It seems it was Jack and group mentality that shoved me out. I doubt my stubbornness caused it as Gizmo said it was my personality, which is only partly shaped by Asperger's. If you saw how my family is, might agree.

I am smarter in that I have a higher intelligence quotient, but no way am I smart when it comes to life or social skills. I tried learning from Jack, but he seemed he did not to want to work with my religion. He gave me a Mormon track which I marked with religious questions and never got any answers back. It is from then on the relationship started to deteriorate. I told him I did not need to be converted, and I understood Mormonism, as I have family that are and one of my biological mother's friends was a Mormon family. One of his cousins saved my life, so grateful to their faith and the person that did.

What really surprised me was Jack's brother, Mike I.I.R.C., telling be that they did not have a good father. I can somewhat understand then where they come from, and that Elder-child relationship/communication can be tricky. My dad still has trouble with it, and only has gotten better once we realized we were both Introverted Intuition Thinking Judging (I.N.T.J.) personalities.

I have been overly helpful since I was young, and got me in trouble. It is sad to see Jack did not see me helpful, despite all that I have done for him.

As for the love bit, I no longer love except a few in the family, as brings only pain. I can like, but then takes a long time. And really, what is love? I not sure I ever experienced it.

Georg, glad to know you are willing to help me grow. I am so looking forward to meeting with Dr. Fader and discussing some of this. I just wish I knew more of what was wrong so it could be corrected.

How am I to stop a water fall with a towel? Confused It is not a drip or two, but the whole amount that is on the roof. It is this water that made rust on the pan.

Mike, good to know I am not the only one that had trouble.

As for the sunroof, it was replaced years ago. I do have another panel I got the whole thing as knew I could make a profit and did. Jack wanted the panel, but then repainted his. I was never able to ask him if he wanted it, and did not want to make him mad by leaving it behind. Wink

Adriel: Part of the learning process necessarily means letting go of the past. There's a fine line between understanding what you "did wrong", and beating yourself up over it by constantly reliving it. Admit your mistakes, make efforts to avoid them in future, move ahead. You're in the reliving- beating self up stage. Stop it. No good will come from it.

I don't think Jack was trying to convert you, per se. He was probably giving you an alternative in which you could find some answers. But, ultimately, the answers are there- you have to sort though the bullshit to see them- and that's the hard part.

You say you lack social skills, and you most certainly do. A lot of people see that as an excuse to continue socially unacceptable behavior. But YOU are identifying precise deficiencies... which is, in itself, a social skill! See, you're starting to "get it"- which means there's hope. Don't use the doctor as a crutch. You don't need him to verify truth when it slaps you upside the head. Use the doctor as a tool to help you start to "lighten up" now.

As far as the sliding roof- Use the same method others have used to stop leaks in the front fresh air vents. Get a sheet of magnetic plastic big enough to cover the whole sliding roof panel and stick it on there till you're ready to deal with it. Or, make your own cover with stick- on magnetic strips along the edges.

Georg, I did not realize I was beating myself up. I feel as if I want to forget the past by never repeating it again. Somehow I did something wrong, and I have to know, or feel as if I do. I want to go to the brain person and say I did x, why was that not socially right? So then, how do I make corrections without beating up myself?

I also should say thank you Georg for pointing out I was beating myself up. Those that are on the Autistic Spectrum tend to get hung up on an idea and have a hard time letting go. It can be a belief, something that they saw (like the car crash I saw the other day which is reminding me about the mid air I heard and saw part of), or something they did. Think we have a desire to create perfection. Everyone getting along and no bad things. I do not intend this as a crutch, but a statement of that I need to improve, and thank you so very much for helping! Very Happy It is because of folks like you that I will improve.

Good point about the alternative. They do have their idea of truth and what is good, which some is truly, like their family values.

I am now finding there is a lot of difference between what I think I say and how it is interpreted.

Good point about self awareness. G-d has blessed me with that gift which you are right, few have. I never thought of it as a social skill. I still need others interpretations though, as it is them that I have done wrong. What I use the brain person for is to help explain what I did wrong and how to gain new skills to avoid the past. He never lets me get away and is not to come to with problems, only seeking real and effective solutions. Sometimes I can get help from others. I doubt that I am ever truly aware of what I did wrong, but feel I am getting there.

What do you mean by lighten up?

Why will the R.T.V. used as glue for the plastic drain not work? Would I do damage? I really like to clean the whole roof. I was going to get to it today, but failed. Will not be back until Monday or Tuesday.

The Squareback has been stored at Oma's, but might be a solution to the problem at hand: no transportation. I was so done with the Mercury that I sold it too soon and now have nothing to drive in Arizona. Rarely need a car with just one dog, but now have two, plus too hot to bicycle the three miles to class.

Anyway, I am not driving it eight hours in 118 degree weather. So anyone have a recommendation on a shipping company? I have seen bad things with U-Ship, so...

Thank you in advance.

Last time I borrowed a hauler, it ened up with U-Haul paying $2,300 for a new hatch and me paying $500 for a rental. Real pain hauling anying over the mountain ranges anyway. Done it twice and never doing it again!

Mike, good to see. Guess that is what insurance is for. I rather pay the money than buy another auto that I have to sell. So what if I get kicked out as I just put stuff in storage and bum it at my mother's. I am 25 and looking for work.

Its not too hot for me to bike! I ride +200 miles a week. It should be 10-15 degrees cooler next month too.

Also I am selling a Honda Accord if you need a cheap ride. Its good on gas, has freezing a/c and I ironed out most of the issues with it. Here is the ad. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/3215087838.html

Also as for a job, their are plenty around, especially in our area, you just gotta actually look and apply yourself, and don't be afraid to talk to prople, and step out side your comfort zone..

Good luck with school

Ember my Golden Retriever loved the Squareback especially riding in it. I found it so much easier to work on the Squareback with her over seeing my work. That is why I am pooling funds together to get another station wagon, hopefully this one:

Been a while since I bicycled in the summer, and just got a suit. Is that the trick? Or, is there something I am missing? My '76 Ross doesn't have any braze ons, F.Y.I..

Sam, thank you for the offer. I am still growing and find American and Japanese autos to be too small: that is why I sold the Mercury. Plus, it is a sedan, and a pain taking two to the vet.

Good to see that there is jobs to be had. Will look harder when I get back.
