I'm not really whining, but I was told to use this thread for my question:
I was just reading (this) whine thread about prices.
Then I went looking through the classifieds, and noticed that prices seem to be in-line with what people were whining about a month ago. Here are the ask prices on the most recent somewhat original hardtop ovals: $19.5K, $17.5K, $15K, $16K, $17K, $36K, $13K, $13.5K, $35K, $30K. I think I missed a $10K, slammed car in there that was in that grey area between rat rod and original.
Did prices firm up by a factor of 2 in the last month or are the whiners right? They discussed complete original cars fairly priced at $6K. Is that the actual price of cars changing hands? I know people get good deals, but the asking price on most of the cars seems to average way more than $6K. Where is the market really at? |
Came looking to ask this exact question. Where is the market really at for ovals? |

Look at the dates on the ads, most have been for sale for quite some time. There aren't many original ovals for sale, almost every single one has been modified, and almost every single one is overpriced. |

OMG, this dummy sandblasted the semaphore!

Besides being a delicate mechanism, the coil windings now no longer have any insulation on them. If the semaphore worked before, I guarantee it doesn't now. _________________

Not sure of the real value of this but $2000 for linkage and some hacked engine tin seems crazy to me:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1922072
Okrasa Genuine Tinware & Throttle Linkage Price: $1950US
You can buy 36hp engine tin for like $25 and cut it up easily enough.
36hp Fan shroud - $50?
So linkage is worth ??? |
You can buy a complete original style linkage exactly like that for $135 from Wolfsburg West. I know it isn't original, but it's identical, and it's NEW and not worn out. |

The entire engine was listed last week from a different user name. This seller registered today, and now only the tin and linkage is available? Buyer beware.... |

Can you tell me what it is about this ad or car that you know that I don't? Thanks. |

I enjoyed looking at the pictures, until I got to the engine shots. What a shame. All that Chinese chrome. Ugh. _________________ sent from a phone using poor grammar and spelling |

I can get past the non original color, the non original interior, and especially the engine. Then you get to the price, he's higher than giraffe pu**y. |
