Here's what the E2000 looks like:
http://www.amazon.com/Airtex-E2000-Electric-Fuel-Pump/dp/B000C1KHJG

You will notice it's supposed to come with the brass fitting which attaches to the large threaded end.

Where are you buying them? Is there a reason you can't just go to the parts house and buy one in person, so you can see what you're getting?

that is the one i have. however, it did not come with any of the components.

I'm guessing I should be able to buy that brass fitting at the auto parts store? maybe it is common enough for them to carry it.

I bought it on-line from Walmart. Was quite a bit cheaper. Now i know why.

I don't know if a parts house will have that fitting, but the fitting by itself isn't enough. Do you see the o-ring towards the top of the picture? That goes underneath the fitting to seal it. You must use the o-ring or the fitting will leak. I'd return the pump for a refund and buy one at the parts house. You'll need the other pieces to wire it up too. Sometimes a bargain isn't really a bargain.

When you get the pump and fittings, cut off the brass nipples about halfway up, where the ridge is. You don't need the full length.

Putting new fuel pump on my 69 fasty FI. See two outlets from bottom of tank. One is a bent brass fitter (90 degree) which is directly centered in the tank, the other is a straight fitting slightly right of bent fitting. Which one do i connect to for feeding the fuel pump? Which one is for return fuel to the tank?

The one with the big nut on it, is the outlet. Connect the supply line here.

The parts you see in the picture......are adapters to use modern push lock fittings for nylon fuel lines.
See the two black horse shoe shaped clips?.....those are replacement locking clips for the nylon push-fit. Those look like Ford.

Look carefully at the brass fittings.....see the single step or flange?.....those are adapters for modern nylon duel line push lock female fittings.

The pump kits only come with that group of fittings if tbe kit is listed for manufacturer specific applications. When most pumps are listed as universal pumps.....they come with no fittings.

If you are connecting this pump or any pump like it to standard rubber fuel lines.....get the proper barbed fitting. There are literally hundreds of sites that sell fittings to fit these and other pumps....for every application. I will post some that ai have later. Ray

Hey so its been a back and forth battle with my 1970 fi. I had it running nicely until a few days ago. I was coming home from work on a very bumpy part of the 5 freeway and it started to sputter like it was low on gas. The next night it starts jerking pretty bad on acceleration and stalling when i let off the gas. Then today it won't turn over at all. I tapped the starter and it fired up. I also replaced the spark plug wires that were very loose and old. Then i went for a short drive and the sputtering on acceleration started again getting worse the longer i drove

Pull out your fuel gauge sender from the tank. Shine a flashlight down onto the fuel sock etc looking for rust/crud plugging up your fuel sock. Unbolt the outlet pipe/fuel sock to clean & drain your gas through a cotton t-shirt if necessary. Idea

Yup, yours is missing. This could allow larger crud to make it to the filter and clog it, but this would not happen suddenly. Some run without a sock at all.

If you decide to replace/install one, do yourself a favor and also check/replace the fuel filler rubber parts and overflow hose. They crack, and allow dirt and water kicked up by the tire to get into the tank. Water can close the pores of the filter and stop flow, as well as rust out the pump and lines. Jim Adney sells a better-than-new kit.

Well, i put the engine back in the fasty, and I couldn't believe it actually started. I installed a new fuel pump, and replaced all the fuel lines.

Once it started, it ran very "slowly" (low rpm). I wanted to let it idle for a while, but after about a minute, it died. I thought maybe the idle setting was too low, so i adjusted that a bit, but that didn't help. It won't start now, and doesn't really want to fire. I smell a bit of gas, as if it is floaded.

Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting this?

Check that the lines are connected correctly, and not kinked. New filter?

You shouldn't smell gas... maybe a hose is leaking?

new filter (OEM). Have been watching for gas drips all around and can't see any. very faint smell, at best. Should I attempt to adjust the pressure regulater? Should I do a fuel pressure test (new territory for me, but willing to attempt it).

I have the "how to keep your volkswagen alive" manual, in which it describes how to run the fuel pump continuously to test pressure via the T and a guage.

Given it did start, and ran, without backfiring, i assume timing must be o.k.

Can these FI setups cause flooding?

Lots of questions~!!! Thanks for any advice you have.

FI can flood, but it's unusual.

Yes, fuel pressure is vital to check. A cheap gauge will get you close enough to run reliably, though a better one will help you fine tune it later. For now go to Home Depot and make one up with a 60psi pressure gauge and brass hose adapters. It will serve you well.

It might be best if you start a dedicated thread for your car, so everything will be in one place, instead of here, with 227 pages of stuff...it just helps us keep track of what you've done so far, without it being mixed in with other cars.

Yes, you absolutely need to check your fuel pressure. Follow the Muir book instructions as to how to do so. You will need a fuel pressure gauge that measures up to 35 psi or so.

Yes, the FI system can flood the engine. This can dilute your oil, so watch out for that. Change it if it smells of gas.

Start with ignition timing.

I replaced the rubber hoses that were cracked when i got the car. I just switched the fuel filter out and nothing new. It starts up and idles fine but as soon as i start to drive it does the out of gas jerky feeling. I had also been having problems with it occasionally stalling when i come to a stop when it is cold. After a short freeway drive that problem would go away so i just looked past it since i hardly drove on the streets. When i just put it in the garage i realized the garage was full of white smoke. Not a lot but you could still see it was there

I opened a new thread for my project:
"Fastback Fuel Injection Project"

Hope some of you experts will check that out and offer some advise.

Thanks
