Hi,
The whole FI system from my '72 fastback has been nicked! and was wondering if it could fit one of the custom systems i've got from a beetle inlet manifold with a modern VCI? I'm pretty sure they are the same engine apart from the cooling system so it should work.
Thanks

Many just run the car without one, with no ill effects. But they do show up in the Samba classifieds regularly. |

i'll have to snap a photo. However, what I have in my car matches exactly what is described in the repair manual for 1969 type 3 electronic fuel injection. Problem is, I can' find any for sale anywhere. At least, not under the name "fuel damper".
It is recommended for FI engine. Not sure what side-effects removing this could have. my understanding is that it is designed/intended to remove (dampen) the pulses of pressure created by the fuel pump. _________________ T-roy

That's exactly correct, and I've never seen any ill effects from not having one. I don't know that they've been available new for decades. Clean your old one up and repaint it if you want 100% authenticity. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Unless it's cracked, no need to replace it. It's hollow, so it can't go bad unless it's leaking. _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |

Do i need to purchase a special fuel filter for fuel injection, or does standard fuel filter suffice? _________________ T-roy

Original style FI filters are hard to come by. There is an equivalent metal round filter that can be made to work. You cannot use the cheap plastic conical filters made for low pressure systems like carburetors.
Google part number 311133511C and find both types. Note size of nipples when choosing; some are stock, some aren't.

I use one of the metal filters. Go to the parts house and find one with 5/16 nipples. _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |

Putting new pump in my 69 FI fasty. See two pipes coming out of gas tank (wasn't hooked up when i bought it). Does it matter which one is for pulling fuel versus which one to use for returning fuel to tank? One comes directly out of the center of bottom of tank while the other comes out slightly off-center on the bottom of the tank. _________________ T-roy

The outlet with the nut on it has the fuel sock attached & is the supply line. The metal supply line is on the driver side of the tunnel. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

I am about to put the engine in, and so have started checking out the electrical under the dash to get ready to start it. Don't know what this electrical part is that is handing down behind the steering column. Help!!! _________________ T-roy

It's the fuel pump relay that's missing its cover. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

|

O.K. I just received my second Airtex fuel pump in the mail, and this one also does not seem to be the correct one. I'm getting frustrated here.
I bought the Airtex E2000. It came and is obviously designed to go in the tank.
i bought the Airtex E2001. It looks closer, but has a large threaded end for fuel input. It is about 1/2 inch in diameter and is threaded. The cap on that end reads, "new filter required this end". Is this a pump I can use? Looks like i need an adapter for the large end, so I can put a fuel line on it. Or, some kind of screw on filter. HELP!! Do I need to switch to Delphi pump? Those pics of it also look like it has a large end. _________________ T-roy
