|

While working in my grandmothers attic I spied what looked to be a very bus like cardboard box. When I pulled it out and asker her about it, she said that she's had it since 64 when she and grandpa bought a new Transporter. Its been sitting in the attic since 65! She very kindly told me that it belonged with me now.
It was a toy box that the dealership in NC gave to them when they bought their new bus. I wish it was in better shape but I'm stoked to have it regardless.

Nice. I have heard of the box, but never have actually seen one.
I think it was a tie-in with the DDB "Got a lot to carry? get a box" ad campaign in 1964 for the "station wagon". |

I've got one of those in NOS condition in the basement. I found it many years ago while on a visit to Colorado to see the in-laws. We were browsing through a antique mall in Greeley when I saw it in a vendors stall. Not a scratch on it! Cost me a whopping $25 back then which I couldn't get out of my wallet fast enough!
I think I wrote a brief article about the box Bus in my Transporter Talk column in Hot VWs and included a few photos. Not sure what issue...

Hello Volks!
Here's a Wiking - Berlin, Germany, American style IH International Harvester Tractor Truck and #58 "Auto Transfer" Trailer full of 1300 VW Beetles.
I just received the Truck and Trailer from Belgium in the mail the other day for my Birthday this year, the collected set is from the 1968/9/70 era.
(I played with the very same Wiking Volkswagen toys in my childhood.)
Enjoy!

Nice grouping of Lion Cars.
Here's my toy haul for 2015.

Nice score!
Is that Herbie a Matchbox redesign?
What make is the silver one on the right side? And the blue one with the red door?

The Herbie and Thorndyke playset is a Code 2 creation using the Lesney No. 25 VW and No. 53 Aston Martin.
I see you like Hong Kong plastic toys. The blue bug is called a Free Wheeler, by Durham Industries. It is marked No. 8013.
The silver bug is another Hong Kong plastic by Auto-Pro, No. 777.

Thank you for the reply and additional Pictures, Blue Baron.
I like all kinds of classic beetle toys but did not know the Hong Kong made model cars in the Group Picture. |

It's a PMC (Product Miniature Corp.) made in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. This one looks nice. They usually have broken bumpers or cracked bodies. There was also a Ghia.
They are often called promos, because PMC also made promotional models for several U.S. companies, but there's no evidence of any connection to Volkswagen. _________________ We are striving for perfection, to make our cars run forever, if possible.
