PostPosted: Sat Aug 29, 2015 5:17 pm    Post subject: 1970 Karmann Ghia Reply with quote

Today I just turned the corner in Ghia hunting. Earlier this week an acquaintance passed on information about an auction in which three Ghias were to be sold. I of course went with money in pocket and my poker face on. The auction started at 10am and I with stood rain and endless hours until 1:45pm when they began auctioning them off. The first was a 1969 that the floor dropped out from rust and there was more metal under it on the ground than there was holding it together it seemed. None the less it went for 250 to some lucky Shocked person. The second Ghia with a Nebraska title had some areas of concern as well in the rockers, headlight areas, and some atop the fender next to the hood. The floor pan was rust free, engine intact with an AC compressor. I opened the door and behold...VW factory air in excellent condition. Interior looked great...glass intact...all the badges...I was all in. I did not bid till it hit a whopping $400 Laughing. One bid and I got it for $450. Pics are to come after I bring it home tomorrow morning. I am just as excited as when I got my 1969 years ago. Anyway, the last Ghia was a 1970 that had been freshened up with some new stuff, but it hid a lot of rocker rot, but ran well so it sold for 5k. As I said I will post pics of all three tomorrow.

Yes the other Sambanista is absolutely correct. I bought a 1970 Ghia and after even closer inspection I found it to be an auto stick. This is my first go around with this setup. If I do not like or want the hassle I have a IRS that is ready to go. Sorry about the pics...I need to download them and shrink them for here.

these are the three Karmann Ghias which I picked from. I felt like Goldy Locks and the Three Bears...but I chose the top one because if was just right.

Not familiar with Ghias. Not my CL ad. Possible real Lowlight for trade in Ft. Worth so figured I'd toss it up here if anyone is interested. Looks a bit rough. =]

Hey ghia guys n gals I thought I'd share my recent ghia find. Showed up on the NW CL listings and sounded to good to be true but called anyways and the 1% of the time came true and the planets aligned! Ill start an official thread for the car in the coming weeks... Here we have as advertised and now documented with all original maintenance logs 24,218 original mile 64 ghia. Car sold some 15 years ago from west coast classics to the family I got it from... At that point approx 15k miles. Parked under a lean to since 2005. Yes it appears to have had a few things altered from original but for the most part untouched. Not really rust or body damage to be found. 1 quarter size door ding and a little brush of the paint near the taillight lends this to be an amazing and exciting haul.

Right after it was pulled from the lean to

Very nice find!

Seems the side mirror placement varied... (looks better on the fender)

Too bad photos are photobucket & will likely follow the norm and later render pics utterly useless.

I've had more VW Photos deleted from the gallery in this forum than from photobucket,,,, and the only copies I had too -- and that is the reason I use it....

If something was removed that was VW-related, you should contact me.
