Don't know if this would be considered a good deal, but I was wondering about some of the features of the van that are mostly found on European market Vanagons such as the partition wall and the double passenger seat. I don't think it was something privately imported from Europe. Would Canadian models have these features? Any comments on the early front cab AC unit? Better/worse than the later rear AC units?

This seems like a screaming deal on a really neat camper if you take into account the favorable exchange rate. Almost seems a little scammy now that I think about it....

I saw this van in person a couple of weeks ago. Location of where it is listed fits with where I saw it.
Don't think it's a scam and based on what I saw it is probably priced about right. Nice van, but not perfect. _________________ 1987 Westfalia, Slate Blue

Faaaaack...... if I had the 10,500 I'd be all over that...
As it stands I'm this (||) close to having the capital to get the loan to at least start shopping in earnest for my westy... If this is still around in a week or two, then it'll be mine. (though I don't expect it to last that long.) _________________ - oderint dum metuant -

What kind of interior is that? Is it all custom? |

I'd never go into debt for one of these things. |

Air cooled, but looks clean. They either got the fridge rust spot really well hidden, or its actually OK.... 3'ish large, Midwest.. Near enough to me I could even go look, I guess. Im not really interested in an AC tho. Well, and the mouse.

This keeps coming up in my saved searches, and now he dropped the price to $7,500. To make matters worse ... Now I can't stop thinking about it. What do you think of the van / price? It would be a project for me - I'd strip it down to the shell, fix the rust / paint, put a Subie engine into it, and probably go with one of those new fiberglass hightops that are being manufactured here (http://canadianhightops.ca)
In other words, I am looking at this as a place to start - is this a good deal for that?
Thanks in advance! |

It can be tough to keep your emotions out of a syncro purchase, but there's a few things we can say for sure without the emotion:
1. Syncro's are highly in demand today.
2. Possibly hundreds of folks are actively looking for a syncro, whether it be for their own use or simply to flip at a higher price, knowing how great the interest is.
3. Because of this, any syncro that's been up for sale for a month or more can not possibly be a good deal, otherwise one of those hundreds of folks would have bought it.
4. Any syncro that IS a good deal, you better have already bought it on the first day, otherwise it probably will not be for sale on the second.
...and I suppose you already know how much it costs to rebuild a syncro tranny, yes?
I imagine other folks are looking at rust coming through the seams (not surface rust) which is a horror and $, and then adding in a couple thousand for a rebuilt trans (assuming the core is good).

Mods can delete this if desired...but just saw this searching for "westfalia" on seattle craigslist...
http://seattle.craigslist.org/est/rvs/5574469864.html
In the last photos one can see a Syncro...so that kinda makes it on topic?
Flame away if desired

Maybe the guy is selling the Dodge to finance the Syncro? It does look like a nice rig. I'd strip off the running boards and the graphics. |
