Heres mine. 1958 made in 1988 aprox. car came with a few hot vw mags and original creator died of a stroke before he could go down to florida.. next owner the guy we bought it from put collector's plates on it in 1990 (when he bought it) and then only took it out twice.. it sat in his garage for that long till we came and bought it.
(I've since replaced that horrible air cleaner actually found one that fits under it and lengthen the studs.) _________________ Signed by the rather insane, ambitious, and very stubborn Darko |

I built the PINK PANTHER ghia and traded it to a kid in I believe Anaheim for a peach/pink 13 window bus that day of the Jamboree... He sold it to someone in London and while I was on vacation there a year or so later met up with the owner,, pretty ironic I was in London and picked up a magazine and my old was was in it featured... Anyone know how to get hold of Bert Silos???? I used to buy and trade a lot of cars with him... thanks

I did post up in the chat part of this forum about Berts black ragtop oval...dont have a pic do you
Also Plum Loco?

Bert Silos built the black oval rag with chrome puzzle pieces at the bottom and the square block white interior, I will try to find a pic. I really liked that car but hated the interior
I also liked the fact that he was rockin Temps back during the early 90's 135 drought.
There were two different Plum Locos. Which one were you reffering to? |
Hi Skim how you doing?
Plum Loco of around 88 was lilac/pink and had Plum Loco on the rear valance airbrushed I think. Sat on Chromies with 356 nipples.
Bert Silos, April 92 I understand its in. Chrome puzzle pieces and a display like the pink splitty.
Pink Panther as seen a few pages back came to the UK around 1990. Havent seen it for many many years, it got painted blue around 93.

Cars we did back around 1988-1993.
My 73 Super Beetle version 1. Peach with purple pearl & seafoam scallops.
My 73 Super Beetle version 2. Bright blue with white scallops w/ green pearl.
74 (I think) Super Beetle peach drip onto purple. Car was totaled in a crash not too long after this picture about 1 month after paint.
72 (I think) 2-tone.

My old 67 1994 at Sears Point. I'm not sure what motor was in at this stage. Turboed 1600 sp, 1641 with 36 Dells or 1776 with 42 DCNFs. It later had a 1776 with 48 IDAs. _________________ John Bates

That bug looks like it was either A) well taken care of throughout the past few decades or B) was just freshly restored. Either way, its one radical ride! _________________ and take the kids for instance "Are we going in the Volkswagen bus?" and they say "Yay!" and clap their hands and if it's a glorious day you can slide the sunroof back and let a little of the glory in and all of a sudden, it stops looking funny.

Just found this thread a few days ago.
Thanks to all the guys that posted pics , they bring back so many memories of cars I wanted.
I dreamed of making my bug look like so many of the cars posted on this thread. I was always too poor to be able to do anything though.
I was a young kid with a wife and 3 kids and working a crappy job.
Now all three kids are grown, I'm still married to the same woman, and I have a good job now.
So, I got myself another bug (after about a 15 year absence) and am starting the rebuild.
Do any of you SoCal guys recognize this car?
It has a pearl coat on it, but it was a minty green at one point.
White rubbers, one-piece windows, Euro blade bumpers, lowered, 5 spoke Empis, smoothed out dash, shaved front turn signals, 59 tail lights, aftermarket Highback Bucket seats, Hurst shifter, and a 2180cc under the stand-off decklid.
almost like they had an "80's SoCal Bug" checklist that they were marking off as they built it.
It had this sweet steering wheel (that was actually green at one point)

I just spent the last couple days looking at this thread, it's like a time machine.
Now I want to paint my car baby blue with some hot pink scallops and color matched 8 spokes. |
