I got 4 of these. all season. shipped to me Oregon

Note that those are Passenger car tires?

HUH? 195x14 D/8PR LT or Van/Bus NOT passenger tires...

The add that you linked to Double King DK218
195R14 D/, list the tire as a passenger tire. With no specifications listed.
http://www.tires-direct.com/cgi-bin/rshop.pl?dsco=...ountry=BUS

This ad appears to list a different tire DK218 195R14C-8PR, the DK218 is the same but the suffix is different.
http://www.doublekinggroup.com/article/201110/67.html

So to conclude the tire you listed and the proceeding tire listed may not be the same tire. I can only go off the ad that you listed as a passenger tire.

What are the markings on the side of the tires that you purchased?

Sincerely
Tcash

Cool they are a LT [light truck] tire not a Passenger tire with a load range of [D].
Must have been a misprint on the link.

They label it a "Summer" tire. wth?
Just the fact that it's not all season makes it less appealing to me.
Do the folks running these only take the Bus out during good weather?
I'm thinking they must suck in the snow?

Most tires I have used that are labeled as "mud and snow" or "all season" suck in the mud and snow, too.

The RA18 is not designed to be used in anything other than summer driving conditions, but they will probably handle some adversity. Having them siped would help, too.

Many folks only drive their VW's in good weather because they don't want them to get beat up and rusty.

I live in WA, so I think it's wise to get an all-season tire.

I don't need them immediately, so I am not deciding now. I'll admit I'm a LOT overwhelmed by how many tires you can find searching the internet. Maybe when the time comes, I will just go to the local shop and see what he can get me Confused

I have the R-A08s on both busses. I think they're great. They are quiet, stiff and work great for most conditions. Used to have the Michelin ltx's on there and were also great but no longer made. The Hankooks get me anywhere when it's dry but real slick mud or sand can be a problem. But for 99% of the driving they work really well. In the winter I either throw a set of studs on the back or carry the studded tires with me, one on the front and one in the rear spot. I think they work just fine on wet roads.
20k on the most used set or r-18's and they seem to be holding up fine and wearing well. I would take a guess and say 20k left on them to be safe.

The RA08s are also not the best in the mud, sand and snow. I think siping the RA18s would help.

Although I like the Grabbers I'm leaning towards the RA18s (siped) now. I do go off road but not like Stu.

I used to run the 195 RA08's up front and the Grabbers out back. Worked real well for me. Would always go, it would understeer in slick conditions but having learned to drive before FWD, understeer isn't much of an issue for everyday driving.

I"m a week into a new set of the grabber AT 27 8.5 14s on the bus and i freaking love them.

solid tire, tracks a bit at high speed but I think that's more me getting used to a stiffer/larger tire. Haven't had them off pavement yet, but they are screaming for it.

Yes, they will fit the stock rims. The photo two posts above yours shows them mounted on stock 71-79 bay bus rims.

I can also confirm that they fit the stock wide 5 wheels too.

Hey ya'll, I'm thinking about buying a wide 5 early bay that has already been lifted with 2.5" spindles up front and 2.5" lift plates in the rear. It currently is running some ugly wheels (too much offset) with 215/75/15's that look too small with the lift. I have a set of bus 15's that I think would look MUCH better and have a more favorable offset. So, what size tires could I jam in there with those wheels? Is a 235/75 possible? I'd like to go as tall and wide as possible without going nuts on more suspension modifications. Any help is appreciated, thank you Smile

Does anyone have any updates on recent purchases of,

1.Nexen SV820's
2.Hankook RA18's
3.Vanco 2's

These are the 3 brands i am debating about my purchase for new tires.

I have Vanco 8's on my Bus but, have not driven it more than 3,000 miles since putting them on in 2003 Rolling Eyes

Thank's for any help - Chris
