the beginnings of our empi sportster build. this is the chassis and engine we plan on using from our donor 65 bettle. the bug sat in my backyard for 7 yrs., today I started it after a little tweaking. I'll post the video of it running soon

Removed coil over rear shocks & installed Gabriel Hijacker air shocks; routed air supply tubing & mounted remote fill valve. Have re-coated exhaust system in-hand and hope to install by next weekend.

And some new seat belts.

As well started wiring the new gauges... way outside of my comfort zone, but pushing forward.

Drove my Manx to work for a small, company sponsored car show for "Engineering Week". It was nice to be able to park on the grass (about as Off Roading as my buggy will get).

Untarped the buggy a couple weeks ago and the rear brakes were sticky. Ordered new wheel cylinders and rubber lines which I installed yesterday. The old rear wheel cylinders were rusty around the pistons.

Was able to take it out for a nice drive today.

Of the 4 or 5 distributors I have available, the 094 is the most beautiful (chrome). Although it's supposedly the same as an 009 inside, it just isn't. That is to say, this particular one doesn't make my low budget 1600 build run as well for me as my less than beautiful 009 does. So just the other day, I got around to dressing it up with a thin sheet of polish'd aluminum (same trick as I used on the coil decades ago).

I installed a slick billet battery hold down in my Manxter. The PO had run the buggy for many years with the battery unsecured, just sitting on the floor. This one is from ICT Billet, purchased via Amazon.

Pretty slick Andy...
Did it come with the base or just the 2 clamps?

For others interested, here's the battery hold down that I installed:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011IT8F3K?psc=1&...ge_o03_s01

I also looked at a similar one, but didn't like it as much because it looked like the little spacers on the battery clamp bolts would be a pain to install in tight spaces.

This didn't happen exactly yesterday (but I did get home from the trip yesterday), but here goes. We hauled the Manxter to CA for the Manx club Retro event and Bruce Meyers' 90th birthday party.

A couple of pictures from the Retro Event including a trip to Borego to see the sculptures in the desert, which included some dirt to drive in-

I am going to have to put the pictures from the party in another post. Tom

A couple of pictures from Bruce's birthday. They wanted an example of each of the cars Bruce has has built over the years. Kathleen's Manxter was there to represent a Manxter, after a massive cleanup after driving around in the dirt the week before.

Here is some more information about the party - http://autoweek.com/article/car-life/bruce-meyers-maker-meyers-manx-turns-90

Installed my new custom homemade oil filler so I can get oil into my buggy easier than through the stock filler which is wedged under the rear overhang.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I made it out of a -10 Dubshop.net distributor plug and an aftermarket oil filler with cap that I had laying around.
Mario tig welded it for me after I filed the bottom at a little bit of an angle to clear my WI nozzle holder.
Now I can add oil without a funnel when on my trip to Big Bear Lake this July. Cool Cool Wink

I replaced a bad headlight dimmer relay (expensive bugger) and sorted the headlight wiring to finally get the lights bright. What a difference! I'm almost ready for the Kelly Park show.

Started some TIG welding. Fabricate a new roll bar / cage type of thing...

Had my roll cage work inspected by the boss of the family. Short before I took the picture, we had just spoken about how I want to integrate the quick lock fixtures so her seat would hold strong.
As you can see, she had doubts if daddy can make it work...

Bite the bullet and cry once......

Get some PRP or equivalent 19 inch wide suspension seats made for a buggy.
Your butt will thank you.
You can also mount them nice and low so your forehead won't be the bug screen.
