PostPosted: Mon Dec 22, 2014 2:46 pm    Post subject: Chronological History of the Assistent? Reply with quote

This thread has been great. I'm wondering if anyone has or knows of a definitive source for the history of the Hazet Assistent, specifically with the chronology of features, changes over the years? If not, I'm going to try and piece it together with the help of anyone who wants to contribute.

For an example:

What year was the Assistent manufactured and introduced?
Did Hazet offer both two tray and three tray models at the same time and if so, what year did they drop the two tray model?
Was the optional stool offered from the start or did that get introduced later? When did they stop offering the stool feature?
What year did they switch over to both knobs being black and what did this change coincide with?
In what years did the various caster wheel changes occur?

I've started a page on FB where we're trying to share information on these awesome tools and bring enthusiasts/collectors together. This is not a commercial effort but truly started by and for enthusiasts and collectors to share information.

If you have date specific photos of your Assistent or any confirmed model change information, please post in the group.

Thought having a more flexible way to share information that connects people interactively would be useful for restorations and collectors.

Hi senzai!

Great idea, I'm also working on a list or timeline of the progress of development - will say "evolution" of the Assistents. There are many details showing up over the years, which have been modified, attached or were accessories.

It helpes quite a lot to date them correctly and - very interesting, how many different versions there are, for example of the 166 model...

I'm looking forward to compile some data for that Smile .

Regards,
Philipp

Anyone know when Hazet started putting two black knobs on the Assistent and stopped putting one blue and one black knob?

I think around 1962 regarding to the old brochures.

EDIT: Sorry, misunderstanding! I thought you meant when they introduced the one black knob to make out the steering side...

Does anyone know when Hazet stopped offering the stool accessory for the Assistent? I am restoring one and it has later casters and the stool accessory "hole" and is a post '65. I suspect it happened in '70 but I'm not sure. Also, when did they go to the white lever locking casters on both wheels?

Goodday everyone,

I recently bought a Hazet assistant to restore. Though I am wondering what model it is, I believe it is an 161/162. I wouldn't know from what year. Could someone tell me what I am dealing with and how I should start with restoring it?
I have included some pictures of the assistant.

Hi

If itīs says "Made in W-Germany" on the side, then itīs a 162 from about 1974-1981.

If not, itīs a 162 from about 1965-1973.

The difference between 161 and 162 is that the 161 has one tray and the 162 two.

New it looked like this:

Hi, please, could someone show me (with pics) the screws that holds the black knobs to the tubes/arms...size...
I think mine Assistent is a late 162 (late 80īs or early 90īs), black top, plastic badge, no Continental wheels, no folding arms.

My two black knobs are lost, but I bought them from Samstagsales and I want to install as the original, the same as the pic below (pic from google, just to illustrate).
Thanks in advance!

I finally found one that I could afford and not pay shipping.

I am going to call this an 161L mode from the mid 50's? Correct?

I would keep that thing just the way it is. It looks great just the way it. My opinion at least.

I will prob hit the rusted trays with a green scrub pad to knock off the loose stuff. Get the wheels redone and use it. Might try some CLR on the paint, still divided on that.
