Here is a picture from my granddad´s deluxe barndoor, must be mid 50ths in spain ( in front my uncle ) . He lived in brussels and it was his favorite car over the years. He did some improvements like separte turn signals and brake lights, also he designed his own camping equipment.

He traveled many years with this barndoor across south europe, i remember that he told me the body was rotten after 10 years, so he put it on the junk yard.

Great photo.
Did he carry the spare on the roof so he could put more stuff in the engine compartment or was it a second spare?

It looks like he had some accessory trim rings on the wheels and some nice badges too.

I think he had two spare wheels on board, the streets in these days were rough. I remember that he always had two tool boxes on his journey.

Laughing that's very cleanly done.
I genuinely think I have seen a barndoor version of every type of split there was now. Walkthroughs, swivel seats, sliding doors, 15 Windows, wide bed pickups, binz and 13 Windows. I'm sure there's a 21 out there. Razz

Does anyone have more photos from this panel? Color or Black & White?

Lodenfrey is a well known German/Bavarian Clothing manufacture based in Munich.

Tom

I'd also like to have more information. Got this photo a bit zoomed in as a slide.
thanks

I've had custom decals made for this Bus for Tekno 1:45 scale Panel Van, which will hopefully be restored in a few months.

Company is the largest Bavarian clothing manufacture and world famous for their *waterproofing* process.
I had like 3 or 4 of my US Army coats and civilian Jackets treated by them in the 1980's.

must be an early 53. the license plate makes it peculiar. it's only 3 numbers and the bus is from Salzburg. I am just assuming, but Kohlruss had their second shop in Salzburg. low numbers like that would only be given out to politicians and serious businessmen. usual license plates would have 6 numbers. We can't see the color of the plates but I suppose they are 'blue' garage and shop plates. It would be a hint towards a professional coach building shop. also the picture has the general feel of a typical registration photo. the way they were used in the Austrian paperwork.
There is something very special about this bus. A commercial vehicle would very unlikely have such a low Salzburg license plate number.
and look how the bus is most likely dove blue and the license plate seems to have a similar color as the bus. that's a hint that these are blue colored dealer plates. usual Austrian plates of the time would be black and they would be looking totally different in the pic ( see color of tires). it seems the plate has somthing like rubber or leather straps attached, so it could easily be attached to different vehicles front bumper.

On the barndoor binz pictured the sidegates overhang the back edge of the bed by about 6 inches

The car she's leaning against appears to be a Mk I Sprite...
