Nice pic I was given as a gift upon retiring last week. I apologize for the reflections, but I didn't want to take the pic out of the nice frame.

I wonder what was on all the cars to make them so dull, there is no shine. Maybe something to protect the paint or is it just the evaporated salt water air from the trip? |

Beeswax or parrafin, most import cars shipped by ocean were coated in some similar greasy sh*t, removing it was part of the dealer prep or PDI, "hey new lot guy!, come here, I've got a job for you".
I wonder if they sprayed it on the cloth sunroofs as well, or if it was applied before the sunroofs were installed? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

That coating is what prevented me from buying a new BMW 2002 in 1976. It was in the dealer's back storage area. My mom and I had gone to look at cars, and she saw it covered in that stuff, and said "No way are you buying that." Arghh! _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Damn!, I feel for you now!
A shop I worked for bought a semi trailer car carrier load of new 1979 Hondas that got laid on it's side as well as some that missed the ramp coming off the boat later, as low man on the totem pole I got the short straw and a box of rags as well as a gallon or two of mineral spirits, as Mr. Miagi says... wipe on....wipe off (or something like that) The skin on my hands has never been quite the same since, who knew about gloves back then?, and did they even make them?
Once the Goo was off they were beautiful, it even sort of added the first coat of wax to it. Made it a pain for repainting after the bodywork but removing it from an undamaged car would have been a peice of cake.
If you are still longing for a 2002 check out Bringatrailer.com, the ratio of 2002's has been ~1 in 10 there the last few months, there's a new one every day. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
