That's nice too! Black is gorgeous when clean and dust-free. More than any other color, the body work has to be PERFECT as any little flaw will show up easier with glossy black paint. I just remember Tony Moore and several other folks mention that after doing a black car, they'd probably never do it again because of how it shows dust, etc. so easily. But when clean, a well-done black car is stunning! And I love the tomato red colored upholstery with black!
Question? Was a white top an option when new on a black Kabriolet? I thought it was just black or maybe tan. Also, on 1957 Oval Kab's were they using Hartz Canvas or vinyl material for the outer top skin?

I treated my future project '57 Kabriolett to a rebuilt split-case transaxle. As it arrived (all the shrink wrap already removed)...
further unpacking...
an Okrasa powerplant will be bolted up to this transaxle to push the '57 Kab along...
Getting closer to getting started on this!

w w......C L !
You even got the Jokon third brake light, must have been a pain to wire it up, considering the original snowflake taillight/brake light /turn signal wiring. _________________ drive it like you just robbed the bank

I'm curious convertible tops how much should one expect to spend on a top quality top installation/head liner? what with all the parts still in good condition? and any recommendations here in So. CA.
Thanks Thomas |
Had the top done on my wife's vert. Black Haartz canvas, vinyl headliner & padding. Materials cost $900 Labor to install was $1400 Extra cost on stuff: Aluminum trim ($300), new wood ($700) Powdercoated frame $250

So I got a small dusty sack of these original clips out and noticed that there are mostly the "short" retaining clips for the door scrapper seal/chrome strip, but also some "longer" ones too. Notice the slightly different shape of the clips also.
the length of the shorter ones...
and the length and shape of the longer ones...
The WW catalog only shows one size clip and part number. Does anyone know the story about the two different length clips? Where did the long ones go (and why was longer needed and designed)? Does it matter? Are the short ones all that are available? I seem to recall that the VW Oval parts book calls for 8 of the longer and 56 of the shorter retaining spring clips per Beetle Kabriolett.
