Center Pin Completed! Only took me six hours, couldn't get the the old guides out, and then the new ones in, and goodness forbid getting the pin lined up to allow the bolt through the top, resulting in my crossing all over town to snag up a new bolt. Once completed, a brief test drive proved to have been not a total waste of time. Though I did discover my drag link is shot and my steering box needs some attention.
Though the wear on the old pin and guides weren't as bad as I thought they'd be, it is now another job in the books. _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

So I'm having a little confusion about my replacement unit for my brake master cylinder. I know I indeed have the servo (booster). I purchased a NOS Ate unit off the classifieds, and it has two of the 2-prong switches. The configuration of the cylinder is different than my original. It was labeled and identified to be correct for my bus.
I don't have a part number only what I assume to be a casting number, with no luck searching the web for better figuring out exactly which make and model this unit is suitable for, so hopefully someone will recognize it or know of a link to verify numbers.
Pretty stumped, thanks guys. Here are some photos of the unit.

Nice job on the center pin replacement. The old pin not being crazy worn is a good thing as it means your bus must not have that many miles on it.
Can you post a pic of your OG master cylinder? If that double 2 prong one is wrong, I'd send it back for a refund. I wish I could tell you more about it, maybe someone else can.
As far as I know, this is what you need:

Pinetops, thank you good sir. Bus was just shy of 100k when I rebuilt it. I've seen the options as for master cylinders from WW, Busdepot, etc...unfortunately they look nothing like what I bought. I also bought it from an individual here, a refund I think is probably slim but you never know. It was listed as bay window bus with servo. Hopefully something positive turns up, I need brakes
Edit: I had to fix the name Piney, haven't heard from you in so long I forgot your photo! Are you driving around in this heat?? _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

Just ordered this from a fella in Colorado, part number is correct and looks correct, hopefully twice is the charm this go around. Here it is, just purchased off of eBay:
As for the above master cylinder, my guess is it goes to a newer bug with a servo, the gentleman I bought it from here on the Classifieds has said he will honor the refund less about 15% of the cost for his troubles and shipping back to him, so hey I lost $40 to learn the lesson to double check things before pulling the trigger on classified purchases. A little back is better than none, I believe he will follow through, time will tell. _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

I think we've all bought parts multiple times to get what we need at times Esp. with some of the low quality stuff out there.
I bought two supposedly "good" carbs that leaked and could have burned my bus to the ground before I did the what I should have done in the first place. Which was have my carb properly restored by volkz bitz.
Im glad you got what you needed. If the seller listed it as correct for your bus then I'd say he wasted your time and money. At least he's refunding you most of it.
And yep, I've been driving the bus in this heat! I haven't ventured too far though! _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

Well coming along nicely (prior to install currently), I received my Dansk (Jopex) muffler w/ EGR port today. Currently painted with a rust preventative, I am considering painting it with a high temp gloss black, while I wait for my gasket set and tail pipe to arrive. $180.02 shipped, what do we think? Paying to have it plated would be nice but Im not after giving that money away right now. I got enough mini expenses on this thing before the show next month!
Here it is, a little scratched, a scuff or two, but hey, bye bye to the obnoxious, extremely hot EMPI dual exhaust muffler.
It was nice while it lasted Curt

I have a Dansk muffler on my bus. It will be a good (and quieter) upgrade over the EMPI. The factory paint mostly burned off in short order and it got surface rust. If you can coat it that would be nice but you don't have to. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

Awe shucks, you guys....
The EMPI wasn't completely unbearable, the thing I didn't care for was how bulky and mis-sharpened it was with the use of my heat shield and rock deflector. Everything was crammed and against one another, causing heat to transfer from the exhaust through the shield to the bumper to my shins!
Should I paint it??? I think it'd look cool, a little more clean, for a while, then start coming off. Not to mention the gosh awful burnt paint smell for weeks.
Brakes to hopefully be completed and buttoned up tomorrow. Wishing for a mild day like today, tomorrow, I'm over the humidity. Also pumped to be soon keeping my bus in the garage, but let's not mention that to the lady just yet _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

Ate brake master cylinder came in, and has been installed. Fairly much a breeze removal and install, a little tricky getting the angles correct from the hard lines to the cylinder of the threaded fittings, but overall nice and easy. Bled cylinder on the bus, just slightly loose (master cylinder to booster) and pumped fluid through brake lines one at a time while the other port was capped and plug.
I did have to source locally a M10x1.0x20mm (smallest length I could find) bolt to plug the rear port that was an additional one compared to the original VW Ate. Not the prettiest solution on plugging the hole, but it'll hopefully do for now.
It was nice seeing Ate on the original and replacing it with another quality product. Lightly bled system and have positive results. Glad to have brakes, and to know what to expect pressing the pedal!

Anyone had any issues with the right parking brake cable interfering with the rear most brake switch on the master cylinder? I notice it rests on the switch when the brake is engaged. The location of the port on the replacement cylinder is not angled down as the original.
I didn't have much luck locating anything on the topic, anyone have any links? _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

Hmm, that's strange. Have you tried following the E-brake cable and make sure it's not binding or hung anywhere? _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

Looking at mine today. Looks like if you don't have the angled down outlet and the switch is interfering with the cable, you could try switching the lines and switches from one side to the other. Would need to bend a couple new lines. Any reason that wouldn't work? _________________ 1979 Westfalia "FireFly" Subaru 2.2 with Subaru gears 5spd.

In attempts to trying to bring back some color to the exterior, I used Meguiars Ultimate Compound first, then there Ultimate Wax. Definitely not a show car, but hell it sat outside in the sun for forty years. Still original though!!!
Left is where I had waxed, right being just the use of the compound.
Some sun and shade shots:

It looks great! There's a lot of good OG paint on your bus. You can always blend the repairs as you go along if you want. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |
